Would You Give Access To Your Analytics?

Here's the deal. I have used a designer/programmer a number of times. He's great, delivers what he says/on time, and seems like an honest guy. I found him on elance, but not sure he does much work there now. His feedback on Elance is great and substantial.

I was having a problem with my Google Analytics account not being able to track visitors from domain to sub-domain. So all of the sales were being recorded as referrals from my main domain, instead of tracking it back to the actual source of the traffic (Search engine or other site).

The guy asked for my login information so he could take a look. I took a pause cause I wasn't sure if I wanted to give him that type of access. It has all my site information, revenue inforrmation, and so on. I COULD give him access to reports, but I don't think that's actually what he'd need.

What would you do? Am I being paranoid?

well as per your words , guy seems to be a very honest and proffesional . So i think you Should trust him .

For your security just change your account password after work completion. You can also add another login email in your google accounts so that you would be able to login with another id if anything goes wrong and you could be able to retrive your password on second email at anytime

    hope it helps

Did you know that you can track across your domain and its subdomains, or had you already tried to set this up and couldn't get it to work? In either case, I would be reluctant to give access to my analytics data, but that's just me.

What bothers me about this situation is that the guy asked you right away for your login info so that he could "take a look." In my opinion, it would have been more appropriate to research the issue (on Google, Bing, whatever) and help you out that way. If I were the programmer, that's what I would do, and I wouldn't want to go into your Analytics account unless invited to do so.

Yep, I know you can do it. It's just not working for some reason. Google's documentation is clear cut in some spots, but it contradicts itself in others. I've tried it a number of ways.

I never give my password for an account I use regularly - even if the person seems trustworthy. If you are wrong about him, he could take your entire Google account - and everything associated with it (adsense, adwords, email, etc).

There are other options. You can take screenshots of your Analytics settings and he can look at those. You can also share your screen with him and let him poke around without actually having full access to your account.

Well, if your car is broke down and you need it fixed, you can't just tell the mechanic to fix it with out him looking under the hood.

Seems like you refer to him as a trustworthy guy, and if he really does offer great customer service, why wouldn't he offer to take a look and try to fix it for you?

Just link his own gmail account to your Google Analytics data. This way you won't have to give him your password.
