I put together a website in the field of audio production. I used to own a recording studio and put up some really great high quality content geared towards helping beginners in the field learn. The site ranks for tons of keywords in Google and im getting about 100 unique users a day. For the life of me though I can't make any money with it. Ive put up adsense, but the ads don't seem to be very relevant so they barely get clicked on. When they do its for only about 10 cents. I have some affiliate banners from audio production websites selling gear. I have affiliate links throughout my articles linking to places the reader could buy the gear that im talking about in the article. Basically ive tried everything. Is there anyone more schooled in IM out there who might be able to take a look at the site or give me some advice on what im doing wrong. I have plenty of sites that make money but they were set up to do so. This site was my passion site and it would be great if I could monetize it, even just a little bit.

I originally had an opt in list but I really hated selling people through email. Its just not really my thing. I do have a twitter page and a facebook page linked through the site. Im mainly looking for something on the actual site that will make money rather then the email thing but I appreciate the advice.

With respect, you seem very nice but I really suggest you work on getting over your hatred of email marketing. As soon as you can.

This makes total sense. No point putting irrelevant ads on a site. 10 cents a click? Thats quite normal too. It's one of the reasons I don't personally use adsense. It's fine if you have lots of sites/blogs, with lots of visitors but not with just the one.

I'd be happy to look at the site, you're doing something right getting the visitors, off 100 a day, I don't see why you can't make some money.

Without seeing the site it is difficult to offer advice. I do however think without fail, you need to think about creating a list, that way you can build trust with your vistors instead of hitting them with ads and affiliate links. I get the impression you're trying too hard to get a sale and not doing enough to actually engage with your customers and give them reasons to buy from you.

Like I said this is hard not having seen the site at all.

That's unfortunate, because that's how you build a relationship with your visitors. Don't think of it as "selling through email". Think of it as providing useful tips and advice with links to your site and your offers.

Send them short articles about an article on your site and link them to it. For instance, put an article on your site and send them the first paragraph telling them where they can read the rest. That's not selling. It's being helpful. Think of it that way.

I'm not comfortable pitching people either, but this method is much more comfortable. Perhaps it will work for you. You really should reconsider the list building angle, otherwise all those visitors will go to waste. You'll be constantly trying to attract more and more people when you could have a list of already interested prospects in your list.

You don't provide us with your site link or how long you've been trying to monetize it.

From what I understand, Adsense takes time to connect with your site. In other words, what are the most appropriate keywords. If you have a lot of keywords once or twice throughout the site, this doesn't give Adsense enough to go on. That's why you could be getting irrelevant ads. They explain this on their site.

Banner ads are debatable, apparently. Some say they work great while others reject them. I haven't had any luck with them myself. I find that putting an image of the product with a brief description and a link to the sales page works best.

Perhaps you need to target 10 top keywords in your niche, rather than 100 at a time. 100 is good, but some have to stand out. Those would be your main keywords. You need to make sure they appear more than 1-2 times through your site.

You also need to tell people what to do. Use a text link with "click here" and see how your results change.

      Hope this helps.

      • Get over your fear of selling via email and try to talk about the benefits for your products in an auto responder set of follow up emails.

This way you can sell a controlled amount to each member of your audience.

You'll also have the opportunity to build a reputation with each individual member of your list before you pitch the sales email to them.

Try to get more visitors... Example: Lets say in a month you will have 1000 hits a day and about 3% of people would click the ads. That's 30 clicks. The CPC (CostPerClick) would be 25 cents. This is money that the advertiser pays for you per click. So lets do the maths. You would earn...... 7,5$ a day. 225$ a month. 2700$ a year.
So your problem's solution is traffic. A lot of traffic.
    Good luck!

      Nonsense.

You haven't seen the site, he could be leaving cash all over the table. You haven't even mentioned the list, you've completely ignored the fact that there could be a myriad of problems with his site.

Sorry that is very basic advice and at worst bad advice, why not tell him how to get "lots more traffic"?

Whilst I'm on, links to your site should be in your signature file, not in there and every post you make.

You might have to get over your aversion to email marketing. People need the 'direct' contact with you to build trust. Giving your content away for an email address then giving them more and more until they HAVE to obey the law of reciprocity and buy your product.

I guess my problem with the whole email list thing is that all my other sites are adsense or 2 page clickbank type sites. After ranking them they all make money with minimal up keep. With this site im kind of looking for the same. I had fun making it but im pretty much done with it other then maybe an occasional article here and there to keep it ranking. When I had the email list up I wasn't getting a ton of signups and I felt It was too much trouble writing these emails that were barely effective. Im open to the idea, but id really love to get the site to make passive income. Even just a few dollars a day would be great, not looking for much. I'll PM anyone who's willing to help the link.

I would put together an ebook with that content and either give it away to build a list or sell it on the site and perhaps on Amazon
