My Business Model Sucks! Suggest A Better One!

Okay basically it's been about 10 months since I've made my first affiliate website. I have made some money but currently only have two websites making me around a sale or two a week. My business model consists of a blog and reviews on physical items.
Since the two niches are quite large I will give them away.
One is on digital cameras (20 hits per day) and the other ...
On running equipment (120 hits per day)

I mainly write Ezine articles for traffic but sometimes get traffic from search engines. I love the writing part of the business and that's why I've actually started writing articles for other business owners.
However, the money only comes in when someone clicks through on one of my photo shopped images which says 'Buy Now' and they purchase.
The problem is I only get a click through rate ranging from 10-30% and then a conversion rate of 1-2%.
Obviously I could continue scaling this up but the amount of effort it takes to just get one site up is enough to be paid a good sum of money.

This is a well known business model but I just can't see it working long term for me as an individual. I'm thinking of moving to clickbank where I can make around £15 a sale.

What business model can I Implement that will be more effective at making sales than the one I currently have?

p.s. This isn't a rant to say how ineffective one method is, I just need to keep my options open and try other things.

  • Step 1

Identify how many potential customers visit your sites

    Step 2

    Identify your conversion rates

    Step 3

Make intelligent business decisions based on your numbers. Calculate the value of each potential customer you send. If you can sell an ebook to 1% of your population and it costs $10 in adwords to send 100 potential customers, then you need to sell an ebook worth more than $10 to make it profitable.

Anticipating a long thread here...there are a million things you could do.

(And, your post didn't come off as a rant...fwiw...at least not to me)

I wonder if you could just brand your sites differently in order to facilitate more trust and willingness to buy? "Digital Camera Reviews" with Ted Wood...maybe get a nice new logo and make the site look as professional as possible...how about that?

It's actually funny you recommend that domain name because it's actually pretty similar. I was just thinking how can I get more of my traffic to my sales page. To be honest I get disheartened when I see that I'm getting a lot of traffic but hardly any are going through to the product.

With regards to business models would just making a large sales page be better because I know for a fact that I love copyrighting?

Then obviously from then on just find ways to get traffic to it.

      • I'm guessing you're promoting Amazon products or something similar. Converting at 1% to 2% suggests that that either you're not pre-selling people enough before getting them over to Amazon OR you're not bringing in traffic with intent to purchase.

To boost conversion rates, search for various Warriors' advice on how to write a review that converts: e.g. Make it personal, focus on both the pros and the cons, compare with other similar products, etc.

120 hits a day is good on a running site. Maybe building a list would help sales.
