Wrapping lines in Aweber...(not using their built in wrap function?!)

Ok,

something I noticed with Aweber (and presumably alot of AR's) is that even though they have this wrap button so that your emails don't run of the screen, the problem is, your messages still occupy the entire width of the email space. For example:

THIS IS HOW YOUR MESSAGES WILL LOOK WHEN YOU SEND THEM VIA AWEBER, EVEN IF YOU USE THEIR WRAP FEATURE. IT GOES ALL THE WAY ACROSS AND THE MORE THE USER STRETCHES THEIR EMAIL MESSAGE WINDOW, THE WIDER YOUR MESSAGES ARE DRAWN OUT AS A RESULT.

But what I am trying to achieve is the more narrow wraps where it makes no difference on how wide the person's email window is stretched, it would always look like this:

THIS IS AN EMAIL THAT HAS BEEN WRAPPED MUCH MORE
NARROWLY, AND WILL ALWAYS BE THIS WIDTH NO MATTER
WHAT YOU DO WITH YOUR OPEN EMAIL WINDOW. IT WILL
ALWAYS BE THIS WIDTH AND EVEN IF THE EMAIL WINDOW
IS SQUEEZED REALLY NARROW BY THE USER, IT WON'T LOOK
LIKE THIS:

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN
AN EMAIL GETS SQUEEZED TOO NARROW IN SOME
PEOPLES
EMAIL READERS IF THE LINES ARE NOT WRAPPED PROPERLY
AND IT LOOKS
DREADFULL DOESN'T IT? I THINK THIS IS CAUSED
FROM HARD LINE BREAKS OR SOMETHING?

Any ideas? I was thinking, do you use tables in an html email to achieve this?

(Sorry for the all caps, I wasn't shouting!)

    Hello Nick

I would say your third example happens when the email contains hard line breaks but the lines are still too long for the recipient's email client, so it wraps them again.

The problem here is that you're trying to produce a format that will look the same for everyone, and that is hard to do with plain text emails, as you've found.

So yes, a solution is to use an HTML email with a simple table, fairly narrow, say 600 pixels wide and centered on the page and let it wrap the copy automatically.

If you stick to plain text, the way to avoid your third scenario is to build hard line breaks into your copy and make the lines narrow enough so that further automatic wrapping won't occur in the recipient's email client.

    Cheers,

    Neil

For text emails, you can use a text editor like Note Tab Light:
Award-Winning NoteTab Text Editors and HTML Editors
to set your line width to the number of characters you want, usually 65

If you create a template in your text editor, you can use it to create your emails then simply copy and paste them to Aweber, or whatever you use.

Always write your emails in a text editor, not a word processor, and put in hard returns.

Like Neil said, use 65 characters or less per line.

Using "good old" Outlook Express, in the options menu, set the plain text send option to automatically wrap at 64 characters when sending.

Create a new email and type normally then save it in your drafts folder. That should trigger the automatic wrap so it looks nice and neat.

Open the email, copy and paste in to Aweber.

Not had any trouble (yet) with this above method.

Note Tab Light looks really good too - better go and download.....

      Thanks,

      Andy.
