Got my first Amazon check! :)

I have, in my grubby little hands, my first check for Amazon commissions earned in December.

4 months ago I wasn't even sure this stuff would be possible, and getting the first actual paper check really feels surreal. I just wanted to share my happiness and hopefully convince some other newbies that you can absolutely make real money online, whether it be through affiliate marketing, CPA, Adsense, etc. Find a method that works for you, learn the basics, and start working! I had almost no idea what I was doing when I launched my first website, and it's now making me money every single day.

I am positive that anyone can make great money online, given enough work and determination. It may be harder for those that aren't already internet-savvy, but I'm sure you can learn as you go. I'm lucky enough to be a nerd with some background in web development, which certainly helped, but with Wordpress and countless guides around the internet, anyone can start their own website and make some money from it from any of the various methods.

Everything you need can be found for free, on this forum. I haven't bought a single course or informational product, and literally 95% of my education has come from the free areas of this forum. Check out threads and posts by people like LMC, Sojourn, and others. There are a few people here, like them, that have given away priceless information without any kind of sales angle whatsoever. Don't just follow someone's information exactly; put your own spin on it, and experiment with ideas of your own. Trust me, you can't go wrong.

Well done Matt! There is no feeling like it.

I am absolutely sure you will have many more in the future.

          Cheers
          Kym

PS - Keep up the momentum, it can be distracting when you actually earn something and you can loose focus for a while if you are not aware.

That's nice! It's a shame they make you wait until you reach $100 before they pay out. It took me a long time to make my first $100 on Amazon.

    • Awesome, congrats!

Now, take some time to list out what was effective in making you money w/ your Amazon promotion and what was ineffective. Then, refocus on the effective stuff to scale up your income. Obvious? Yes of course, but it works!

    Matt,

Congrats! Personally I have yet to make any money from my sites, but in all honestly I put alot of work in one that I suspected early on would not generate much in the way of sales, now I need to focus on my other one.

Just out of curiosity did you buy any marketing tools (i.e. Market Samuri), how many sites do you have, how much time per site?

The only IM tool I've bought is Scrapebox, which I couldn't do without. As for sites, I will say I have 4 sites that make money, but one of them makes well over half of my income so far, the rest split between the other 3. I'm not making a killing by any means, nor even anything close to a full-time income, but this is tangible cash in my hand, and my February check will be worth a few times more than my December one was.

I should say that it took me almost a month after launching my first website to make a single penny. That's an entire month of working hours a day, plus learning along the way. I actually posted here asking for advice on whether I should give up on that site and try something else. Let's just say that I'm glad I didn't, heh. It's incredibly demoralizing to do a ton of work and not see any results whatsoever. I have a feeling that this is a major reason why people give up before making a penny. I was determined to succeed in IM, but I can't say if I would have kept at it if I went 2, 3, 4 months without any results.

I'm skilled with computers/internet for sure, and I easily pick up on new technical stuff. However, I had zero experience in marketing, SEO, professional writing, or almost anything other than the technical side of things. I still have a ton of learning to do, and I know I could probably be making a ton more from the same sites with more experience. I'm a passable writer, but probably pretty mediocre at selling/promotion.

I agree, though, that being internet-savvy is probably the best skill one can have if you're going to do anything in IM. That, and being a bit lucky and getting off on the right foot. .

Also, I'm not going to say there are no valuable courses at all. I have an allergy to spending money, so I tried to learn it all myself. :p As far as doing the actual IM stuff, you can the basics and make your first dollar just by reading the free info here.

I’m glad for learning your good news! It’s nice to see a positive post here once in a while, among many negative ones…

However, don’t think that you were merely lucky. You are internet savvy. This was what helped you make money so fast. Ask people like me who can only write and things like that, but have no idea about html code, if it’s easy for us to build an online business and make money with a website.

I depend on my webmaster to do everything, what cuts my wings in many ways. I cannot easily make changes at my sites… I have to pay for each change. I had to spent a fortune to make 3 sites.

This is why now I’m making money as a writer too, instead of only trying to sell my own ebooks, and Amazon products.

I’m selling my ebooks but this is not consistent. I have very successful days, but many days without any sale…

I have never sold any Amazon product. I’m promoting them too (not as much as my ebooks) but… nothing. I guess I have to write a few reviews. I hope I’ll see a check from Amazon some day too. Thanks for proving that this is possible.

Not gonna lie, it wasn't a lot; a lot of people here probably make more in a day than the entire month's check was worth. I was really just happy to have an actual check in my hand, from work I did solely online. I don't think I did bad for my first month of earning online, either. I'm trying to figure out how to invest it back into my IM business. I really hope to be making a full-time income online by summer.

It would be much more convenient to have direct deposit, but being outside of the US means I can get paid by checks only. Getting a physical check in the mail feels more motivational than numbers on a Paypal or online banking screen, anyway. :p And like Jan said, I'm really looking forward to getting a check in the mail every month.

But yes, if you're starting out, just try to keep motivated. I still struggle with that. Working from home online, as an internet junkie, is one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. I've started to block distracting sites like Youtube/Facebook/Reddit etc. Although, there are people making a killing off of those sites, so...

      Tell me about it Chris

I think half of the Large Pay Days from Amazon are B.S on this forum! Most are touted from people who are selling a book or video course on making money from amazon.

Facts are yes they have large conversion

      But

      1. Not everyone buys through amazon.com
      2. Commission rates are crap you have to sell CRAP loads of products to get even a half decent check

The idea that people make $5,000 or $10,000 is nonsense. I asked a rep at amazon and they said that they rarely hear about that..

So caution to the wise, be wary of products spouting that they get paid $10,000 from amazon

That is so not true.. Amazon can make you decent money, as long as you put in the work, a lot of people get decent commission checks from them, we just don"t always publicize it..

It doesn't take much to bump up the commission rate on amazon, just sell a few products, to do that I found a few books I liked, put a few good reviews on my blog, and in the last 5 years I have never been under the 7% commission at all.. I have a friend who makes a nice side income, she takes out books from the library she is interested in, reads them, and writes reviews on them, and makes a nice side income just from that on her blogspot blog..
Don't always go for the obvious stuff, little girls will always play with barbies, little boys always love action figures and lego's, people will always buy calendars, play board games, a lot of people live out in the boonies and like having their groceries delivered from amazon, and with recurring orders, hmm hope you get the drift..

People will always buy home decor stuff, they can't find in their local store, they will buy funky stuff you would never think of, car accessories etc.
The convenience of having it delivered to your front door can't be beat.
Think slightly outside the box, endless.com pays 15% and cant be beat.
If you wanna sell shoes, look at those with low returns, men will always need dress shoes, runners can be fiercely loyal to a certain brand of athletic shoe, women and nursing shoes, construction workers, etc, they will rarely return shoes, they know what they want and want it now..
People can and do buy almost anything online...

sarahberra - (that's what we call my niece, btw!) Arizona and Oregon are both states in which Amazon has an affiliate program. The only thing that seems to jeopardize the existence of the program in any state is the whole internet nexus tax issue but as Oregon does not have a sales tax, you should be in good shape.

I live in Arizona and do very well with Amazon. I get paid without any issue. I can only think it has something to do with how you're formatting your links? There's a link checker in the affiliate dashboard somewhere and you might want to check a few and see if they're broken or not.

I'm not touting the Amazon Associates program at all, nor am I trying to sell anything. In fact, in the first post I said that you don't have to buy anything to start making money. I could have called it an Adsense check and the message would be the same. This has little to do with Amazon, and more about the message that any newbie can make money online. I plan on branching out into Clickbank, Adsense, list building, etc in the near future. Whether you do Commission Junction, Clickbank, Amazon, or any other type of affiliate program, the idea is all the same. If marketing solutions to problems and making a much higher commission per sale is your thing, then something like Clickbank is a much better idea for you.

Anyone can make money. If you're not into affiliate marketing but are an awesome writer, you can write your own eBooks or write for others. I recently learned that an acquaintance of mine has a 50 year old mother who writes and sells eBooks online; I thought that was awesome. Someone who was in the marketing chat a few weeks ago told everyone about how he makes a killing from a recipes site. I am amazed at how many ways you can make money online.

What is "success" to one person might be a miserable failure to others, so it's all relative. I'm ecstatic to have a $50 day across all of my sites, which doesn't happen often yet. To someone like Chris The Traffic Blogger, that's probably laughable, but considering I made $50 while visiting family all day and not even touching a computer, it's amazing to me. Like I said, I'm not making anything remotely close to a livable income, but with all of the various ways to make money online, that's an inevitability.
