Amazon affiliate link localizer WP plugin- Doest seem to work for me

I had just read about the plugin and was thinking of using it on my blog but your post has set me thinking whether to use the plugin or not. By the way did you login your amazon affiliate account and checked whether your ID is showing properly in various amazon widgets and amazon product banner or text links?

I use the Amazon Affiliate Link Localizer differently. I insert all my links with my Amazon US tracking ID. If a visitor is from the UK or Canada for example and there is a product with the same ASIN then the plugin sends then to the local site. I have gotten some sales from both the UK and Canada that way.

I am not sure why you insert your link without your affiliate ID.

There is another plugin - Wordpress Amazon Associate - which I have just starting using, not sure how well it works yet.

Thanks for your reply, well I do insert all my amazon links with my affiliate IDs but I'm wondering in the event my account gets banned(again just an extreme example) if i can just insert my affiliate ID in the plugin settings area to replace all my Amazon ids for that website rather than one by one.
I cant seem to get the plugin to work the way I want it to

Yeah this is your problem.

I've used it before as described above and it works.

The plugin needs your affiliate ID in the links to start with. It just changes them to the other Amazon sites based on your visitors location.

My biggest question about this is the fact that amazon.ca sucks and usually doesn't carry 99% of what I'm promoting through Amazon.com. I wonder if it's really worth the hassle, especially since I like to make separate tracking ID's for each product I can promote so I can track my stats/conversions better.

I also came to the conclusion that the localizer plugin is not worth using, for mostly the same reasons mentioned. The main one being that the Canadian Amazon site barely carries anything; it's surprising how barren their stock actually is.

You can ship to Canada from Amazon.com anyway. You just have trust in the Canadian Customs that they won't hold the item if it's over $20CAD but they give leeway a little here in there. I'm guessing up to $40 CAD.

Although it's not funny at all I smirk whenever I think that CAD is worth more than the USD now. When going to a Wendy's in Canada they'll accept USD cash but try to reverse that with CAD here in the US and they'll ask is that money real?

The way things work sometimes..:/

No need for code behind or wordpress plugin... the portion to install in your site is in JavaScript.

I know it's a little late but here are my results with Amazon Affiliate Link Localizer. I sent this to the creator (Pete) of the plugin via the link below.

Hopefully he'll improve it.

After spending a few hours testing the Affiliate Link Localizer WP Plugin here are my test results:

1. I used IP addresses located in the USA, UK and Germany via the "Proxy Switchy!" Extension (Although I did say I would test through Proxify.com) for Google Chrome.

2. The product I chose for an example is the Kindle since it is available on all the regional amazon sites.

3. I used just a regular page on one of my sites and added 3 links.

4. The links I placed on my test site were generic "amazon" links for a Kindle product:
Note: This Kindle product is exactly the same but has different links per region.

The Amazon Affiliate Link Localizer works ONLY if the IP address is within the USA. The Amazon Affiliate Link Localizer does not work if the IP address is outside the USA. So in essence the plugin is broken right now for possible customers outside the USA. *Note this could change with additional updates to the plugin.*

Thanks for the awesome post Gil.

I used the localizer plugin for a while and didn't have much success. Your tests explain why.

From checking my stats at Amazon I could see that I was getting CA and UK click throughs but they rarely converted, apart from a few unrelated sales.

Does anyone know of a working alternative?

The creator of "Amazon Affiliate Localizer" Pete Williams contacted me earlier today after I posted the same above "testing" post on his site and he gave me a new 1.6v javascript to switch out with the old 1.5v js. This seemed to work.

I used the same parameters as my first test in the above post.

Let's take a look at the NEW TEST RESULTS:

FINAL CONCLUSION:
The Amazon Affiliate Link Localizer works in the USA, Germany and the UK. I won't assume it works in France, Japan and Italy until I've done further testing (I've spend too much on this today already.) but it definitely looks promising.

So in essence the plugin is fixed and working albeit not perfectly (In the sense that it doesn't go to the exact correct product page. But I'm assuming that's a whole other ball game.)

Is anyone else experiencing that when you make a sale, instead of the sale coming from the tracking ID for that particular site, the sale comes from your default tracking ID instead. By default tracking id, I mean the tracking ID which is put in the plugin settings page.

Is the plugin supposed to do this? The plugin settings page only has a place to enter the tracking ID for each Amazon country, it doesn't have a place to enter the tracking for each site.
