What happens when someone clicks a Facebook ad?

I'm a newbie at Facebook. I ran a campaign where I got 4,290 clicks (at $0.03/click I might add) and on my page I have had 3,478 people like my page (at last count).

I know that people who like my page will see when something new is posted to my wall, but what about the people who clicked and then either did not visit the page or did not like the page?

Here is my question: If I post something, will those who clicked my ad but did not "like" my page still receive their post on their walls?

No. If they didn't 'like' you then they are lost clicks.

What you need to do now is start interacting with the 3,478 and building a relationship so that when you pitch an offer they take action.

Incidentally, you can now direct to a custom page with a sales offer if you want to be direct with the traffic from FB ads.

From the stats you posted you seem to have done VERY well. To turn 3,478 out of just 4,290 into fans is a good effort. You can only ever communicate with those people who have liked your page and become a fan. If you are wanting to improve your signup rate then you could try using the Facebook reveal code where you offer something for free to your visitors however they must 'LIKE' your fanpage before they can receive it.

and Facebook is cool with this?

I had no idea you could do something like this on FB. I actually avoid Facebook like the plague but am starting a new niche that is a really good fit for it. This is interesting.

Yeah, Facebook have no problems with this at all. You will find plenty of people using this tactic nowadays. The only thing they don't like is when you force people to Like your page to enter a competition or win something. But if you are just giving away a coupon or a free ebook or video or whatever, it is perfectly acceptable.

Yes, Facebook is cool with this. Facebook has their own advertisement system within the site. You pay THEM for the clicks. It's not a Google PPC program.

Thanks for the cudos. I'm over 3,500 Likes now. What is the Facebook reveal code and how do I use it? If it's self-explanatory, that's cool.

The problem is Facebook is changing from FBML (Facebook Markup Language) to iframes in the next coming days, I believe on March 11? What this means is after this date you can no longer use FBML to code your fanpages. Any fanpages that have been created using FBML will still work but no new ones can be created.

The reveal tab will still be possible using iframes however it will be a lot more complex. So if you are looking to do this then I suggest you get it done over the next few days.

Here is a tutorial that explains the process:
Facebook Fan Pages Reveal Tabs – Show to Fans – Hide from Non-Fans | HyperArts

If you are no good with simple coding then you may want to hire someone to do this for you on the cheap. It's not difficult at all for anyone who knows what they are doing.
