If I buy your software......

If I buy your software and then sign up to your list to make sure that I get your 'updates', I do not want to be marketed to.

Really? You mean you really want to? Ok, a little bit then.

No? Not good enough? You want to send me emails every day, pimping other peoples products? Ok, then, I'm sorry. It's not you, it's me. I just don't have the time to go through your emails and delete them everyday. Sorry. I just don't.

So, I'm afraid I'm going to have to unsubscribe.

Wait, you mean I won't be notified if your software gets updated? Well now I feel like my attention is being held hostage.

I paid for your software and even under the guise that it does get updated and I need to know about those updates.

Anyone here know what I'm talking about here? It's extremely annoying getting hit up with marketing emails from software developers. Hey, every once and awhile, I can take that, but when you put me into an aggressive marketing campaign when I just want to get software updates, that's pushing my patience and will basically cause me to become bitter towards you.

Hats off to Jon Ledger, by the way, who does this the right way.
