Is this the end of the road for plr articles businesses and article spinning products and services?

Just like to know whats everbody`s take is on the latest google algorithm change.
Looks like this time those "content farms" and sites with low level of original content will fall like flies.
EZine has already pushed its minimum word content up to 400.

The Google announcement is here:

    It's certainly very worrying, but I wonder if people like Ezinearticles are going too far in what they are doing to improve quality, and if that was Google's intention all along?

    I don't think it's the end of PLR. It's not just used for blog posts, PLR also becomes PDFs, newsletters, private membership material, etc. Google doesn't touch those.

    PLR should not be the final product but a "leg up". It should be changed, added to, torn apart, or used as research.

    Wish this change would really eliminate spun articles. However, it won’t because Google’s automatic system cannot evaluate quality; it only detects keyword repetitions, and various details of common writing tendencies.

    Just to be clear since this post is saying the minimum word count is 400 and then in another spot 500, the official minimum EZA words is 400.

    Totally agree Peggy,

    There is a lot of hype on the net that if you rewrite a certain per cent of the article it will not appear as duplicate content. Sadly, this is a MYTH and is incorrect.

    When Google searches for duplicate content it checks sentence by sentence. So, if you have not changed just ONE sentence, or one phrase, the filter will return a duplicate content on that sentence. How many times this happens before the whole page is deemed duplicate content is a secret.

    If you are going to use PLR as website or blog content, as previously said, it is best to dismantle and rewrite it completely.

    So you are saying, if i were to create a "new" article but let's say each sentence would be a borrowed sentence from random other articles, while the article (as a whole) would be indeed "unique"....google would check EACH sentence, but it would find that each sentence already exists in other article(s) on the net...and therefore the article would be a 100% dupe?

    (Since each sentence has a copy somewhere on the net)

    Interesting, indeed.

    Now...if they also perform a synonym check (aka.."guide" == "manual" == "handbook"....)...then even using different borrowed sentences AND using synonyms would yield a dupe article.

    Indeed...that would be bad ;/

    Hi GeorgR,
    No, as you well know, they are more clever than that. Hey, there are plenty of free websites that you can do duplitate content checks on, and they just use basic scripts.
    From my understanding the new stuff that Google is using is lightyears ahead and this is just on the lowest setting at the moment. Thousands of websites are been re-anked as we speak. and this is only the beginning..........

      I doubt it is the end at all. My traffic statistics have my little store getting much more traffic now than last week.

      Like most of us quality PLR sellers have been stating for a while now, you need to change it up to maximize it.

      Change format from article to video/audio/pdf.

      Take some time to rewrite it in your own words.

      Take the content and use it as is while adding your own insights to it (curation anyone?)

      As far as the connection between PLR and Ezine Articles... they don't allow it, so there is no such connection.

      I'll even give you another great use for PLR. If you find a quality seller you can buy the PLR to help get you to speed on the topic (research.)

      Using it "as-is" was never really a good plan to begin with.

    "We’re evaluating multiple changes that should help drive spam levels even lower, including one change that primarily affects sites that copy others’ content and sites with low levels of original content. We’ll continue to explore ways to reduce spam, including new ways for users to give more explicit feedback about spammy and low-quality sites."

      This whole thing is smokescreen at this point and no can say what the result will be. Sites like Buzzle that require unique content were slammed so it is NOT a focus on duplicate content like people keep stressing on.

      And Matt Cutts said himself that it's the people scraping content and copying it from other sites without adding any value to it that are the issue and the target for this latest change. Clearly, they also targeted specific sites with no clear reason as they are down-ranking pretty much across certain sites without regard to the quality of the page.

      Everyone needs to step back and stop speculating what will happen until the dust settles. It takes 2 - 4 weeks from what I've seen to settle down after major algo changes. Wait and see what happens before you make any decisions about what you will do next.

      Unless EzineArticles was told by Google that the specific changes they made are what they need to do, Ezine Articles is also reacting too soon. Although, since I agree with those changes, I don't mind...lol. But still, too many are reacting immediately instead of waiting for the dust to settle. That could end up hurting some people worse than the algo change does.

    If you post all 237,482 plr articles on one domain and put tons of adsense on the site too... then you may take a hit.

    If you rewrite the PLR and distribute it to a number of authority sites for backlinks, you'll still receive all the link mojo you would have a month ago.

      PLR content can be used for Web content - and that element may have
      taken a hit with the recent changes (or not, depending upon how you
      use it).

      But there's so much more you can do with PLR content that I doubt if
      this (or anything) will signal the "end of the road for PLR articles".

      For starters, PLR content can become:

      * an ebook
      * a special report
      * a print book/manual
      * a slideshow
      * a podcast
      * a video tutorial
      * an email course
      * a follow up autoresponder
      * private membership site content

      ... and there's so much more.

      This is before looking at the possibilities when you build upon the
      outline and add even higher value to the PLR content in unique ways.

      And while some may be surprised at my take on this, I do NOT believe
      'article spinners' (the tools and the users) are going to disappear
      just because of this change!

      Anyone remember 'Traffic Equalizer' built mini-sites from 2003 or so?
      They evolved/morphed into other versions of non-value adding content
      resources, that still made their owners rich. The downside: they had
      to keep working for the money, and it was always going to be uncertain
      how long the current set up would last.

      I explained this in a section on "Your Content Philosophy" in my book,
      'Think, Write & Retire!'

      All success

    I will still be using PLR after the sudden decision from Google. it is a matter of getting inspiration from PLR itself and the spinner to rephrase everything. Im not against any spinner in particular. But doing it all automatic is just plain wrong, getting hands on is still the key. So no, its not the end of the road for them.

      If anything, the PLR business should increase for those who provide *quality* PLR content and tools. This is because now -- more than ever -- people are realizing the importance of having unique, quality content for SEO purposes. And for a lot of people it is easier to rewrite PLR content than it is to come up with original content from scratch.

    In my personal opinion, PLR is not meant to be copy and paste directly onto the site.

    In fact, I like this recent changes from Google, it really change the battle field for internet marketer.

    It will be less noisy environment for serious players

    PLR will change to meet the market needs. It's as simple as that. Written content--PLR, original, spun or curated or however you want to describe it-- is going to be needed.
