Can You Offer a Free Guide on a WSO?

Hello warriors,

I just re-read the rules for WSOs but they did not say anything about offering a free guide. I want to offer my method for making money online for free because with my method there is a tool that I am affiliated with that plays a big part in it. I figure there is really no point in charging money if some of the readers buy the product through my links as I honestly have used the tool for lots of success. I guess if I must charge then it will be for a $1. XD

Free WSO's are allowed, and are generally used for the purpose of building a list. What many marketers do is to simply collect an optin in exchange for the product, and then, will segregate the group of people who buy the affiliate product, into a

    buyers list
based on 'what' they bought (guide, tool, subject, etc)

    Here's a quick example.

I had a list that was 50% buyers, 50% optins for free stuff. (I had not segregated the list at the time.)

I started emailing them various types of promo's... tools, content, etc, and wasn't getting any response. Suddenly with one particular subject, they started to act, and I realized that this was what this group purchased, so I segregated them into a separate list, and now I only mail them what I know they are interested in.

    Hope that helps.

That is very important because some people are just straight up freebie seekerss who will never buy anything from you. You have to keep away from them!

Good deal Dani! I know that it can get a little confusing when you have a lot of different lists but do you just automatically add them to a buyers list... like a seperate list without the opt-in when they purchase through Aweber? Not sure exactly how you would do this. Or do you use a spreadsheet, given that you are the spreadsheet Queen! (Miss you homie!)

I think it's a great idea to offer freebies as WSOs, and as mentioned above plenty of people do this. It's a good way to build your list, or even simply to build your personal brand if you want to show that you're the kind of person who likes to provide value.

Sweet, thanks for the advice. I forgot to mention that the reason I am doing this is to build a list. Now that I have made money I feel I have some value to offer to other IMers and this is THE place to do it. Can't wait to get started.

By the way in order to do this I need to have a link from the WSO to my squeeze page, right? Thx in advanced.

I've done it and will continue to do it. Excellent way to add list subscribers, especially if you target the IM niche. And as Ruth mentioned, it adds to your reputation and builds your name as someone who gives a lot without asking much in return.

I'm not sure I'm in any type of position to offer advice here, but I will anyways.

While I understand the theory behind offering a free WSO (ie. to build a list), I would avoid offering it for free. Rather, charge $2-$3 bucks for it. Why? Because, by offering the information for free, your list will consists of mainly freeloaders and people who are not proven buyers.

However, if you charge a very small fee for the guide, even just $1, you will have a list of people who have been proven to have no problem whipping their credit card out or signing into PayPal. It might end up being a slightly smaller list, but I'd rather have a list of proven buyers than a bigger list of freeloaders.

That is just my little ol' opinion, though.

Interesting. That does make a lot of sense. I better make this report solid. It will take some time to really put what I learned into it. I was thinking about charging $7. Its not much but come on its a lucky number. Every single product out there seems to end in a 7. Why? Because we want to feel like luck is on our side. , Hah I'm just kidding.

But the way it will be structured is having a free way of doing this which of course takes more work but then having a paid tool that makes everything much easier and delivers results faster. This is very traditional among the free guides out there. Thanks for your advice.
