...prospects into your funnel through list building?

So seems to be the general consensus that IF you are going to maximize
your earnings, you MUST build your list and get prospects into your sales
funnel, starting with the low end products and work your way up to selling
them your higher end products.

And certainly, that DOES work. Many people here at this forum build lists,
some of which are extremely popular and well known.

But is it the only way to run a profitable business?

Is it the most efficient way?

Are there other models that, when run properly, can produce just as much
if not MORE income than the list building model?

What I'd like to do in this thread is have some folks who are truly having
success with other models than list building share their models with the
rest and maybe give others some idea.

I personally DO use the list building model almost exclusively, so for me
to comment on another method would not only be foolish but a total waste
of time. I just don't know any other way, for me, to make a steady income.

But what about the rest of you?

Feel free to share whatever you like as long as you're truly having success
with it. No theory please. Real results from real efforts.

Go into as much or as little detail as you like. I think it will help, if nothing
else, stimulate some ideas among those who have either tried list building
and failed with it or never tried it in the first place.

Thank you in advance for your contributions.

This thread title had me excited...and then it actually delivered on that excitement (albeit in a different way)!

Great idea for a group talk Steven, it's always good to have a look at other models and hear what's working.

Personally I'm intrigued lately by the power of the larger social networking sites, particularly Facebook.

Justin Goff has made some great posts regarding his success in daily PPC campaigns using FB, and has been good enough to share his numbers and methods.

The allure of Facebook to me lies most in the targetting capability for vendors. The fact that you can drill-down and segment your offers by age, sex, interests, groups, and other critical segmentation is extremely powerful in the right hands.

Hard to beat listbuilding when talking about the actual funnel itself, and while things like CPA emails/zips are attractive due to their lack of committment, it's just too easy to cultivate a responsive, active, and buying list, if you're a solid content provider (and a decent writer).

Still my favorite for that reason.

    I SUCK A LOT...

of prospects into buying without a list. I think a list is essential if you are in the Internet Marketing niche, but less so in the Health / Fitness market.

The way I see it, list building has two main benefits:

    1. Reminding the prospect of the product. He might not buy it the first time, but if you keep on reminding him, well... it's at least better than him seeing product only one time, right?

    2. Selling different products that are still related to the niche.

The first benefit would be useful for not only the Internet Marketing niche but to the majority of other niches as well, maybe with the exception of "extra urgent" stuff.

However when it comes to the second benefit it might not be as beneficial for niches outside IM. After all, if you have a "how to get rid of eczema" list, then you can only sell them stuff to cure their eczema, and if it gets cured they don't need other stuff related to eczema anymore, and if it doesn't get cured then... well, they would think 100 times before buying from you again.

So... why DOES it work in IM? After all, you are promising the guy $12,483.13 in the next 2 days by just pressing a button... if he bought that product and really made money, then chances are he wouldn't need the next product which promises $9,441.09 in 25 seconds?

And if he bought that product and didn't make money then he shouldn't be an idiot by getting the second product?

How does this work? I have no idea. But I am baffled time and time again with how HUGE every IM launch is. The guys who bought 20 products in last year and are still failing / not succeeding enough... go on and buy the 21st.

I don't understand. But I digressed too much, I guess, so sorry for that Steven Wagenheim!

I'm making a killing on Fiverr. I've spent months tinkering with my gigs, and streamlining the entire process and now I've gotten to the point where I can run a $1,500 monthly business with just a few hours. Considering that at my old job I only made about $1,200 a month, I'm really digging this. I've also used Fiverr to find more clients for offline and seo work.

    How did I do this?

    1) I spent 30 minutes a day for two months looking for ways to streamline gigs so I can get them done in less than 10 mins, and then just getting used to the system.
    2) I decided to stop looking for that mythical big gig, and have built up a couple of smaller gigs which have great feedback and are now generating clients without me having to look for them.
    3) I devote 20 minutes a day to looking for clients, despite not really having to. Quite frankly I always get a little worried when something seems to easy, and so I will continue to pretend that I'm still scrambling for work against a 1,000 other people.

Now I know that a $1,500 business for some people is chum change, but for me it's something I'm really proud of. I built it up myself, and now I intend to use the money to expand my other IM ventures.

Nice Orator, I would imagine that your own WSO provides a great blueprint for doing exactly what you described.

Getting a system down on Fiverr that allows you to be as hands-off as possible while completing gigs in 5-10 minutes is never a bad thing.

Truth be told I really need to upgrade that WSO, I've learned a lot more since then.

Your right it's a nice backup system to have, and I actually get to exercise my creative side in ways that simple old affiliate marketing doesn't allow me to.

Have you taken a dip in the Facebook pool yet? If so how would you evaluate it versus traditional avenues?

For me it is not putting all my eggs in one basket. Diversifying my income streams is the key. Blogging, affiliate marketing, adsense, adswaps, and bringing as much targeted traffic to my blog as possible. It all boils down to the more traffic you have the more money you will make if you have good offers.

Steven you are dead on listbuilding will always be king, and everything else is secondary.

I suck... at list building. I hate it! I always have but I'm working on that aspect of my business. Kicking and screaming, but I'm working on it.

For a long time I did article marketing and sent traffic directly to the sales page. In spite of what everyone says, I found success in using this method. Sure, everyone says "but imagine the money you left on the table" blah blah blah. And no, I didn't write 10 articles a day and blast them out to 100 article directories or spin anything...

I have to admit that I have found more success in making some changes and these days I do things a little bit differently but for all those nay-sayers that say that it can't be done, it can be done.

This is the part where I would say "Click Here to find out how I make money NOW!" HAHAHAHA!!!

Just saying, it can be done and once you have a system down it can be profitable. It is based upon kinda old school affiliate marketing techniques that some guys used to use with PPC but I didn't have the money for PPC and probably wouldn't have risked it even if I had it.

I know this is not everybody's cup of tea, but incentive sites can be about as "hands off" as it gets. There is a lot of work involved initially but once you get the word out and your list of members start to grow, it takes on a snowball effect. The most important thing is to deliver on your promise every time, no matter how big or small the profit. I sometimes have to send out $2 Yugioh cards but guess what, that same person will tell his mates at school who tell their mates and parents. The next thing you know, you get people completing $290 offers (Directv) and getting stuff like gaming consoles and DVD players. I know this because I can track which member referred who. I also love the idea of giving away stuff for free. It is a true win win situation for everybody. Oh, and I am also building a solid list of freebie seekers at the same time. Maybe some day I will bring out a WSO on how to successfully manage a GPT site.

I think list building is very important. I know that even in my offline magic business I grab the persons name and address before I give them information. I never count on them to call me. I follow up.

I am using a free ebook right now to build my list and I tell people it is an ethical bribe. My ebook for your email. Simple.

They say it takes 7 or 8 hits to get them to see what you have...so a list is important.
