What an interesting forum with a lot of great resources. Like so many others, I find myself in a situation where I need to make money quickly. I would like to establish a profitable business using only the resources I have on hand. The challenging part is, those resources are tremendously limited.

The resources:
my computer and internet access
a flip video camera
less than $75 cash
a dream, backed up by a business plan that could use some fleshing out
my love of teaching
a total naivety of most computer related issues and technology (means I don't have any bad habits, yet!)

What I would like to do is pretty simple, I'd like to produce high quality web presentations (webinars, webcasts, podcasts, etc) on a variety of subjects for sale to the viewers.

In reading and researching, I'm finding that most presentations which are made have backend products associated with them. It seems that in many cases, the backend product is actually the "primary" product, with the presentation developed with the goal of marketing that product. I would like my presentations to be the primary product. I am planning on backend products and it would be foolish to miss such a great opportunity, however, my backend products will be designed to support or promote the topic of the associated presentation. For example (this is not a topic I would be presenting on, is merely something I chose for example purposes only)... let's say I did a presentation on Developing Better Time Management Skills: with backend products being a variety of planners, a wrist watch with a super duper alarm. But my primary product would be the presentation itself, if I sold any backend products, it would be icing on the cake.

I prefer not to do live initially and possibly never due to a less than reliable internet connection. Ideally, my web presentations will be mostly powerpoint based, but I'd like to integrate some video segments throughout. I don't know how to do that and would sure appreciate some suggestions.

I have looked for a comparison of reviews of the top webinar hosts and I'm not finding any recent ones. Anyone know if there's a good one out there? Any specific reasons I should go with one host and not another?

I have broken my plans down into some major sections:
Planning
Producing
Promoting
Presenting
Profiting

Right now I'm still in the planning phase and thinking I'm making this a lot tougher than it really needs to be.

I'd like to move on to the production stage fast. Once I have the initial presentation completed, then I can take the time I need to promote. So.. I guess that's where I'm at. I'll gladly take suggestions for the "planning" phase. Will say that I am confident of my topics and my audience. The Production phase is where I'm struggling.

How do I take that camera, that computer, put them together and come up with a quality presentation... fast??

At this point, I don't want to make any purchases, the money I have on hand for this project is destined to go towards domain name/host/business license.

Ok, you experienced folk... I could really use some guidance!

I can't pm because I'm new here and don't have that priviledge yet.

Have you tried searching with Google and YouTube? While I haven't checked, it is almost certain there are some video tutorials there.

If you have a PC, Camtasia is probably the best and I think still has a free trial where you can try it out. They also came out with a Mac version something last year.

Camstudio is an open source version of Camtasia, but doesn't have quite the same capabilities.

There are a number of other ways including screen capture with voice over.

I'm sure others will have their favorite ways of doing it and will chime in to help.

      Thank you Marvin!

That is exactly what I am looking for. Free trial is still happening. I'm holding off right now on subscribing to anything with free trials until at least one of my presentations is put together, that way I can make the most of my free 30 days.

Youtube has a tremendous amount of helpful videos... I've spent hours watching and like an idiot, didn't take any notes at all. I am slowly going back through some of the videos and taking notes this time. Most of them are "how to's" based on presentation skills, where to look, pauses in speech, that kind of thing, I found very few addressing the actual "mechanics" of putting everything all together which makes me think that maybe I'm making a bigger issue of this than what it actually is. It's possible I have resources available I'm unaware of. A friend just told me that I could use the movie maker on my computer but not sure how that works with voice over and power point.

Someone else suggested that I eliminate power point... that it takes up too much time in the development phase and that if I can present in a dynamic fashion, I can have just as much impact as power point (doubt that!), AND that by eliminating the time invested in developing power point slides, that I can be a more prolific producer. I do have a lot to say and I think I have information which can be of benefit to people and that they will be interested in.

I'd love to hear suggestions for making this a quick and easy venture.

And upon greeting the new day, my question of the moment:

Is there a way that I can do a production today, start to finish and have it ready to go online... in one day? (my subject matter and basic outline are already drawn out, enough for several different presentations)

Thanks again for your help Marvin!
