My first ever traffic was from creating a free optin ebook where I interviewed several successful Internet marketers on a specific topic. Several of them emailed their lists with the link to my squeeze page.

How much do you get now ?

I'm not telling. ha ha. It's a secret that I still use, so I'm not giving it up. : þ

But my secondary traffic source that was working when I started at the same
time was " LINKS under youtube videos, with annotations pointing out the link, and using pause on the end of the video to freeze the youtube annotation pointing to the link. "
Mentioning " please click the link below to get it now " IN the video really helped,
and giving them something for free at that link. Like an ebook, or access to a membership site.
It grew from there for me.
I still use these methods. Very effective !

Article marketing is unbeaten way to drive targeted traffic to your site. Additionally you needn't break your wallet to leverage this method. This is long term strategy, it will keep delivering traffic even you want to stop it!

I have shared before that giving away FREE stuff (at our site) worked best for generating traffic.

But lately I have been getting questions about the potency of article writing.

Do you think that article writing (and spinning) is still effective?

I believe it is, if used the right way.

Have you ever heard of content distribution? This is were instead of publishing your articles on article directories, you find popular blogs that already have targeted readers and guest post it to them.

I have had great success with this method.

I know a great guy who teaches this and much more. Let me know if you want to know who he is.

I will always remember my first traffic source and it would have to be from an article that I submitted to EZA.

Article marketing is still effective but it is even more effective if you combine it with video marketing. These days, you can see more and more video search results appearing on Google and if you know the right way to optimize your videos, it's quite easy to rank highly for them.

When I first started Internet Marketing back in 2004, I used Pay Per Click to get initial traffic. While it does cost money, it is a perfect first option when starting a business because you get a lot of analytics and insight immediately into the keywords used by people interested in your ad (and your website).

And, you get data immediately so you can immediately start to optimize and will know what keywords work best for natural. . . since then, I have done a lot of article marketing and SEO and now get much more organic traffic.

I have tried social traffic but so far have not been able to get the same conversion rates as with paid traffic and articles. . . but I am not giving up as I know social media and marketing is becoming more important as the Internet evolves!

My first traffic was from SEO. I knew very little about SEO, but I intuitively knew about "long tail keywords" although I didn't know that term. I basically listed every company in a certain niche on my site (one page per company) then did a massive post for other companies on a page. Got me a lot of traffic for a newbie (50 a day on analytics) and then by getting a link back from PR5 website by writing them an article, I got it up to 100 a day. For organic reasons that site now gets 100-200 uniques a day and $200-$300 in adsense per month, plus more from other forms of advertising. Nice for a complete newbie!

Before you ask I tried affiliate products on that site but never found one that converted well and earned as much as the adsense - but I haven't stopped trying!
