Does everyone purchase the affiliate product first?

It seems like most people purchase their affiliate product first beforehand so they can do a good review.

Is this always the case, or does anyone not do this? It's probably a bit shady for an IM to not review the product beforehand - am i right?

  • It rather seems like the majority are NOT doing it, or how else can we explain all these great reviews, especially about products that aren't on the market yet?

Anyway you're right, in order to give an honest review the product should be bought first to get an overview.

The more I know about and believe in a product the better I sell it. So I do purchase and try out the product before offering up a review.

I usually request a review copy of the product I wish to promote from the merchant. In most cases they do give me review copies or temporary licenses or, if it's a membership or something that can be accessed, they give me temporary access. You can try doing this. But be sure to show proof tha you want it only for review so that the merchants will not think you are free-loading.

I have seen many people talking about promoting products on here without ever using the products. (mainly informational, moneymaking type stuff) This really saddens me to see. Some people even have said they know a product is worthless, yet they still continue to promote it just because it converts well. Personally I just cannot do that, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night, but I guess whatever gets the sale these days.

Alas, There's a lot of people who promote things that they've never used. Sometimes, they even write convincing copy. Usually not.

I used to write "reviews" of products I didn't buy but I've stopped doing it. This is just my own ethical code - even if other people review products they've never even used, doesn't mean I'm going to start.

I will often review products I've paid for, but if I'm really interested in a product that I don't personally have a use for but I would like to review for a niche site, for example, I'll send the product owner an email letting them know about my website and that I'd like to review their product to see if it's a good fit. They pretty much always send a free review as they can see I'm genuine.
