After writing an article, how should I format it?

Hi all,

So I have wrote my first article for my blog. And I have been given some excellent advice on what to do once its ready to go: I.e I think it was Diane or Tim who told me that I should submit it with a backlink to my own website, wait for that to show and then submit it to the article websites (now I have proved the article is mine).

But what do you do to get it 'ready to go'? Is there a guide on correct linking, metatagging, how many keywords to mention (1 or more) and how many times to mention it? Maybe even any software related to producing a ideally formatted article for publishing on your website and then ezines?

I'm just worried about getting into a bad habbit with how I 'sort out' my article pre-release.

All the best,

Ben.

P.S A healthy dose of Karma for you, there is no escaping it! (even with Karma-Blocker 2.0)

Actually, you should first post it on your site and wait for it to be indexed. Then you can submit it to many of the article directories. Most will only allow you to have links in the resource box, and you will use anchor text (the words that will be linked back to your site). The anchor text should be the keyword you are targeting in the article. Try to use a 1-2% keyword density in your article...for example, if your article is 500 words, you would ideally want to use the keyword phrase 5 times. Also, make sure the keyword is in the title.

It is fine to use more than one keyword phrase per article. Just write naturally about your keywords, don't force it. If you are targeting "dog training tips" then realize you are also taking care of the broader keyword "dog training," as it is contained inside your three word keyword phrase.

And yes, publish to your own site first. Wait for your web site page containing your article to get indexed. Then submit to directories.

The better directories will not allow you to go over their own keyword density rules. It is built right into the submission process. When you hit the submit button, you will get an error message informing you that your keyword density is too high, or that your keyword is too long, etc.

Generally you can use as many keywords as you desire but you will be able to write more articles if you target few keywords(2 or 3 per article).

Then use each keyword twice for every hundred words while making sure that you have one keywords in the title of the article, in the first sentence, at the middle of the article as well as in the last sentence of the article.

And yes, before submit it to top article directories, post it on your website.
