What does the Google update mean for Article Marketing

I am interested in what last week's Google algorithm update means for Article Marketing.

EzineArcticles traffic is down over 35% since the update (as reported by their CEO, Chris Knight).

It seems Google is out to kill off the search dominance of lower-value, non authoritative sources like EZA.

Do you think Article Marketing is now a waste of time?

No I don't think article marketing is a waste of time. Just make sure that your articles are always unique and Always produce quality content. Google made this change to get rid of scraper sites from other countries that steal content. This is what my boss tells me. Sites like e.how were not affected because they don't scrape content. All the content must be original. However, some other article directories were affected because many people post the same article in all the directories. It seems more like they are cracking down on "duplicate content" rather than "content mills." There is some major confusion over this whole thing. I guess time will only tell how things will pan out for everyone though. It's going to take a few months to see the full effect of these changes.

Proper article marketing will never die...

What Google is trying to kill off is the hundreds of thousands articles spammed across the Internet for no other purpose than backlinking sites.

Article marketing in it's true form is meant to provide high-value information to people searching for that information in the form of articles.

You just need to make sure you syndicate your articles to quality article directories.

The point is to submit articles which would be picked up for distribution by webmasters in your niche, and to include such great content that the readers are interested in learning more from you by reading your content.

Absolutely NOT! Producers of truly top quality articles and content now have the opportunity to rise above the silt and detrius and shine! It's the 99% of "writers" who have absolutely no skills who need to be concerned.

At long, long last, Google is going to reward high quality content, and not before time!

It's probably "bad", rather than "good", overall, for article directory marketing.

But not for article marketing, at all.

The idea of using article directories to get traffic and backlinks was, for so many reasons, not very viable anyway. The "rinse and repeat"/"writing for clicks" model of article marketing has had an enormous failure-rate for a very long time now. Yes, maybe this will turn out to be another nail in its coffin (though it's still too early to tell even that), but - statistically speaking - the coffin lid was well on the way down anyway, so it isn't very relevant one way or the other, overall. This actually has very little to do with real "article marketing" anyway.

As many of us have been saying here, over the last week or so, true article marketing is more likely to benefit from all this than it is to suffer.

Thank you so much! This is right on. "Directory" article marketing is something fading quickly. This only helps those that are creating a viable business with their own website.

Google changes will very rarely effect those that create quality content instead of massive amounts of crap content. Google's main purpose is to deliver the best quality content for the search term used. That's what the changes they make will ultimately be about. They want their users to have the best experience possible with their tool.

They are getting better and better at distinguishing the difference between what real "quality" content is and what 95% of article directory content is....crap.

Submitting massive amounts of crap will be hurt by this and those that create good content that is helpful will be rewarded. I love the changes. I only create good content.

Right now there is a temporary confusion after this change at Google’s search algorithms, but it’s gradually being fixed.

Today I see at Statcounter that many of my very old EZA’s articles are sending traffic to my sites, besides the new ones. It seems that things are getting back to normal (for authors who submit original content).

Now you will triumph through article marketing only if you write original content. Thus, focus on writing good articles, or on finding a good ghostwriter.
