What made you think about making money online?

How did you actually discovered that there's money to be made online? And what made you go - yea, I could be doing this!

I discovered that there was money to be made online by clicking a "Webmasters" link on some site that took me to an affiliate program, which introduced me to the concept that there actually is money to be made online Been hooked since then, and boy, I can hardly believe that it was like 6 years ago or something.

And the "I could be doing this" feeling came from my first check that arrived. Never looked back

What's your story?

I started doing websites for friends and friends of friends back in the 90's.. later started helping people with eBay..

I think it's easier making money online "offline".. in other words, looking for opportunities to help others go online.. people forget to look for those offline opportunities once they get the "online" mindset.

About a month after I saw a video where Tony Robbins was interviewing Jeff Walker.

Lots of different reasons here! For me, I was having a hard time getting a job after studying full time and started googling ways to make money writing. I wrote for a while and started to think more about what the people hiring me were doing with my articles. I found out they were making money by putting them on their own websites and I learnt how to do it myself.

As a former freelance writer who took a wrong turn into the corporate world, I wanted -- needed -- to write again. Whatever it was had to be short because I couldn't commit to a book again. I thought magazine articles, but ended up at eHow. And started making money. It gave me a taste of what's possible.

Everyone has a "WHY". If you don't know your "why" you have a problem and have a great chance of not being successful. My "why" is my family. I worked a factory job with long hours raising 3 young children. I got to the time in my life that I saw my children starting to grow up and I felt like I was missing this. I made the decision to begin working online. I found a great opportunity and jumped in with both feet immediately and I know work hard at this and love it.

At the time I was already learning about running my own online business as I wanted something to work towards long term to escape the 9-5 and work for myself.

I had never heard of affiliate marketing before but I remember seeing a thread about it on another forum. One of the guys in there had huge success doing PPC. He uploaded photos of him sitting at his desk with massive piles of money in front of him.

He wasn't selling anything, didn't have a WSO and wasn't in the MMO niche, he just wanted to show people what kind of success was possible with internet marketing.

        I was hooked.

I lost my job and finding a way to make money until I found another job was a necessity. I started selling everything in my garage on Ebay and Craigslist and it was not difficult to do so. Then I started using a couple drop shipping companies. To make a long story short...I survived for almost a year until I found a job. The aha moment still had not hit me until years later when I met Tim Atkinson and shook his hand and asked him what he did for a living, (mainly because I saw him pull up in one of my dream cars). He told me he has made millions doing internet marketing and there was no reason that I couldn't do the same. The confidence in his hand shake, and the fact that I had been seeing him for 3 years, was instant inspiration. Then I had a flash back to the most deperate time of my life and how I made money during that period. I wondered why I had never really thought about it before. Where would I be if I had never stopped? Too late to look back...but I know my future is in internet marketing.

    Hey Matt, very interesting topic.

I discovered it via spam, I mean people spamming me with
emails about how to make money online but I never paid
attention to it, until one day I decided to do a research
and to my surprise I discovered that lot of people were
    making money online...

As I was with the back against the wall and had to make
money I decided to give it a try. In the beginning it was
hard and created me a lot of problems with my family...

But after going through lot of pains I was able to crack the
code and here I am today running a very successful Internet
    business

    Thanks,

I saw a lot of unhappy faces, need to work in this s**t jobs faces. I realized how the grind system of most people reality works. You work very hard for too little, all your career in various companies . Than I started looking for a better future for me & my family. At that time I had 9-17 nice job. As you know "when the student ready, the mentor appears", or something in this spirit of things. I don't have a mentor yet, but I do feel that I have a direction and all the right reasons to follow it.

I suppose my experience was a bit different, though I had always figured it to be the norm. I seriously entered IM in 2005, but this all happened in 2003

I simply had one question going through my mind. "Why do all of these people spend all this time creating free content on websites?" Also, I asked myself why they would do this considering that it costs money to buy a domain and hosting.

I typed in "Do regular websites make money?" in Google. After reading a few articles, I did another search for "How to make a dollar a day with a website". I learned many different concepts for making a site profitable, and even created my first product. Made some sales over the next two years, but I was never serious about business online.

In 2005, I decided that I wanted more control over my time. I owned a small logistics company then, and I brought it online. Profits scaled up along with demand, and so I decided that it was time to learn all that I could about creating profitable websites that didn't offer services, or physical products. I studied every website that I came across, basically reverse engineering everything that I could. Took me a year to reach my income goals, and I then sold the majority share of my logistics company.

    The rest is history...

I had a business creating multimedia presentations and seminars for big corporations. But I'm a night person and I got tired of showing up in meetings all over the country at 9am, so I started to shift my business to online.

Today I still work for clients, but I create web sites and work for smaller clients I acquired online, so they don't expect me to show up at their place.

It made a huge change in my life, as now I'm able to work from any place in the world (as long as there's reliable internet), and I'm living half of the year in Germany, and the other half in Thailand.

IM is so cool, you gotta love it!

Honestly, I don't remember exactly what caused me think that I could make money online.

It was probably a spam email that I got about 3 years ago. I was a university graduate and I was conditioned to get a job and do my profession like everyone else. I did it for a while, until I was enlightened by the opportunity of making money online.

After being downsized from a metals manufacturer in 1994, I started doing typing work from home while going to school. So I'd been working from home part time since '94 while job hopping from one FT brick & mortar disaster to another.

My last FT disaster was 3 yrs. long but at which I learned how to do digital transcription and learned more about different computer programs. For the last year at that hell hole I used to say "if I could only find a way to do JUST the transcription from home -- no answering phones or having a b***ch boss hanging over me all day, I'd be happy."

Well, they always say be careful what you wish for. I ended up out on permanent disability a year later in 2005 - but I was at home!

We'd also just made settlement on our new house only three months earlier and I knew disability was not going to cut it. And since my husband had already been on disability for two years, he also had to start working from home online. So we did it together!

I took my general transcription skills online - built a website, scoured & posted on craigslist and ended up making almost $20K that first year at home doing transcription - with not even one local client. It was all through online advertising.

Meanwhile, I helped my husband build a website and he's an independent distributor for butcher supplies as well as selling on ebay.

So the WHY of making money online was first because of the results of countless personality screenings I'd had to take over the many times of signing up with the unemployment office - I do not play well with others. Every job skill and personality analysis had it right - stick me in an office by myself and just leave me alone.

And with the Internet catching on back in the 90s it made it that much easier to find work to do online and advertise my skills beyond my local community.

Secondly, we were more or less forced into it and had to learn it quickly or suffer the consequences. Fortunately when we were looking to buy our house, we did it the smart way. We planned ahead for any unforeseen adverse circumstances and bought a house in a price range that would not be risked should we lose any other income.

That was in 2005. We're still in the same house and we still both work from home online to supplement our disability. And even with our disabilities, we wouldn't have it any other way.

Once my decision was made to move from a Corporate working lifestyle to an Entrepreneurial lifestyle, it was a very quick transition from being employed to being the employer. After some investigational work and a fortunate conversation with an Internet Entrepreneur, I made the decision to absorb myself in the Online Marketing Industry, realising the huge power of the ever growing Internet.
I put my past, present and future success down to four things:
1). To find true independence we had to work EXTREMELY hard.
2). No matter what happened in our day, we had confidence in ourselves and kept positive.
3). The willingness to educate ourselves and others.
4). The ability to give and take with honesty and integrity.

I guess I was never the kind to work for "the man".
At some point the company I worked for made me see how rich they are getting and how little I am paid, so I've decided to look for other ways to earn an income.

It all started when I was on a car forum and instead of an ad it said "put your ad here" so I figured if that forum can charge people to put ads, why can't I build a website and charge people for the ad space... then Adsense, eBay, Clickbank...

I was 25 and had a good job as a corporate banker. When my wife and I bought a house, I was really excited....then I got really freaked out that we bought too much house. So I started to look for ways to make extra money. The rest is history.

Looking back, it was really really silly for me to be so worried about that.

    1) I had a good job, as did my wife.
    2) The house wasn't THAT expensive. Mortgage+taxes were about 17% of our gross income.
    3) Our mortgage was small enough to where I could've asked my family or hers for money if we got in a bind. They both do well enough to help out.

But I'm glad i was nervous about it!

I was looking for a way to earn some money while studying abroad, since I wouldn't be able to have a "regular" job. I dabbled around in eHow, Amazon Mechanical Turk, and paid emails and surveys for a bit, but then I was introduced to even more ways to make money, especially as a writer. I've been at it ever since!

I discovered how to make money online through Ebay, then when I was trying to get out of selling on Ebay I started searching online for other methods of making money. I ran into Travis Sagos bum marketing method, and since it was free I went ahead and gave it a read. I've been addicted ever since my first bum marketing sale. I <3 making money online.

My personnel opinion is It is a open to all market. You can show your skill upto the limit. There is no restriction in your business like taking 100s of permissions from govt like local business.

I ventured into online business because I feel that the opportunities and possibilities of the internet are endless. And at this day and age, It has to be the biggest marketplace in the world. Internet marketing is like credit card business 10 years ago and real estate 20 years ago.

I wanted the FREEDOM that internet marketing gives me. I can live anywhere in the world or be on Vacation anywhere in the world and still run my business. Sitting here in my Vacation Condo in Chiang Mai, Thailand right now.

Went to an Internet Marketing Confernce in Las Vegas back in 2001 with Cory Rudel and been doing it ever since... never worked a regular job since.

I love it... but what I've discovered that is even more exciting is showing someone ELSE how to make money on-line and then when they do... it's a big HIGH and great feeling.

Made my first bit of money in the dot com boom with a fairly bad website I made for fun.

Nowadays having a lot of fun doing a bit of everything. Have got a lot of things set up.

It all comes down to traffic, or conversions.

I found myself out of work on a medical disability for much longer than I had savings to support myself and family. I then looked into internet marketing because I heard some where that it was a quick easy way to make a lot of money. Boy was I in for a shock when I found out by experience that I could have never been so wrong about anything In my life.

That was three to four years ago. I am not making much money in my online marketing business, matter of fact I invest more a month than I make. I want to tell any one that I love what I do and would not give it up for the world. Despite the the constant effort, focus and sometimes never ending learning curve that I have found to be associated with this business, it still manages to give me a great personal reward when I am able to help someone. or I get something right.
