Yeah, I'll go with this. If it's a pitch, just tell me what it is, what it does, why i should have it — and do it quickly.

I never hosted a webinar before, but I watched thousands of them, and these are some of the mistakes I often see.

-Try to make a live demo of a software with random data (this usually fail and make you look bad).

    - Not consider the demographics of your target audience If you are on China and your main target is on USA make sure is not 3 AM over there when you host your webinar.

    - Being too generic. You'll never be able to cover a lot of ground in a limited time giving value to your audience. Always stay on focused topic, if you are hosting a webinar about crate dog training don't speak about dog health you can do another webinar about that particular subject.

    - Product pitch always at the end

If it's a pre-sell webinar, a good tip is length control.

Often when I'm doing one the time can get out of hand because if the audience is loving the content their questions will be positive and emotionally uplifting...which prompts you to answer them endlessly!

Anything above 45 minutes and you're starting to lose them, it's tough for human beings to keep 100% focus and interest in a topic that long.

By setting a time limit it also forces your content to be precise, and you'll stick to the script more instead of going off on tangents or side-stories on a whim.

    Great question for a thread.

Don't get caught trying to answer every question asked... they make good followup material as a bonus or low cost product.

Mistake #1 is assuming that everyone in your market is willing to attend a webinar.

This is true in some markets, very untrue in other markets.

I hate with a passion webinars where the visual component is completely useless and no more than a summary of points that could have been listed in a simple PDF handout.

Such webinars are actually the norm, from what I've seen. And they're a waste of my time when I could have gotten 100% of the content from an audio file that I can listen to at my convenience.

One that I hate is that there are no video controls on these things, if recorded (a growing trend). Give me a way to "cut to the chase" or I'm likely gone.

If you are trying to make people believe that a recorded webinar is a live webinar, you should make sure the links you show as working do actually work at the time of playback!

But isn't that by definition dishonest? And therefore something one shouldn't do?
