Adding FB Like Button in Wordpress

Hi all,

I want to add a FaceBook like button on my WordPress site. I want to be able to add the like button on whatever post I want, but I only want the like to show that the person likes my HomePage.

For Example:
Lets say that I have an inner post on... mywebsite .com/post1 Someone clicks the Like button on the bottom of the post and on their FB page it will show that they like mywebsite .com/post1...

But I want it to show that they like mywebsite .com only and not mywebsite .com/post1
Make sense??

I have been searching for awhile but everything i see seems to only like the page that the like button is on.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Matt

Go to the Facebook developers section (google it- I'm on my phone) and click social on the left hand side. You'll see the like button option. Click there, fill out the details and put your website URL in where it asks.

Now take the code and either put it in your sidebar or put it in the correct template in wordpress so it shows below each of your posts.

I dont really recommend the second option as repeat visitors won't be able to like new posts. Facebook have made their 'like' into the share feature now so every like if a post will get you far more publicity.

Definitely put the like button in your sidebar though

Hope that made sense, as I said I am out on my phone!

      Hi Rachael,

      Thanks for the help.

I have a plugin that allows me to stick the Like button on each individual post and it works great but it shares the individual post that the like button is on. That's fine for every other post except for one in which I don't want it. So when I try to stick the code in there manually for this specific post, it just disappears for some reason.

On this post I am going to share some files for a specific group of people and I don't want everyone on Facebook to be able to get these freebies. So when these people click on the LIKE button on just this page, I want it to instead show that they like my homepage and not the individual page where the freebies are.

      Is this possible?

Make sure you add the needed code in the header, many people forget that part

Yes, just follow my instuctions and put in your home page URL and you'll have the code for the like button that you can use anywhere so that people will like your main blog directly

There's a WP plugin called Facebook Likes It that should do what you want. You can get it by going to the Plugins page in your WordPress and click on the install tab that allows you to search for plugins.

This particular plugin gives you a few options, so it might be what you are looking for.

Just go to the plugins section, go to add a new plugin, and search for "facebook like". You'll find a plugin or two that can add the facebook like button to your blog and your blog posts.

Whenever I try to put the code in individually into my Wordpress post as the <script code or the <iframe code, it does not work. The code will just disappear and the like button will not show any longer.

Every plugin I have tried for Wordpress like buttons allows me to enter the Like button perfectly but it will only like the actual page in which the like button is on. It WILL NOT allow me choose to LIKE only my homepage.

Nothing so far has worked for what I need it to work for. There has got to be a simple solution that I am missing here.

Let's see if I can explain this better. Here are the steps I took.

I went to FB developers... Like Button - Facebook Developers

I entered the relevant info and it printed out two codes; 1 iframe code and one script code.

I then copy and pasted that code where I wanted it to show on my individual wordpress post.

The like button worked for a few minutes, then it would just disappear like I didnt even enter the code in the post in the first place.

I know that there are many FB LIke button plugins, but I havent found one that allows me to control what page the like button links to on each individual post.

I would enter that code in my theme editor but I dont want it to show up on every post...I have a plugin that works just fine for that

Make sure you add this code to the HEAD section of your webpage:

      Code:
      <script src="//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js"></script>
Then add the iframe wherever you want it to.

      Regards

          Hi,
How do you add the script on Wordpress?
I tried editing from the Header.php but it did not work.
