Information Overload in IM

How many methods of "making money online" did you try before you decided to stick with one particular method until you succeed?

When I started blogging 4 years back, I was overwhelmed with the amount of information and tips available in this forum and a few other IM sites. Started off with Adsense, moved on to affiliate marketing, started offering services (SEO, design etc.) and switched to social media marketing.

Do you have a similar experience before you realized what's YOUR method to make money online?

For me it was relatively easy to decide, as a career copywriter in the real world prior to deciding to first experiment online a few years ago it made sense to focus and leverage my abilities in that arena.

I try to tell people just now entering this industry that they have to trust their instinct. Certain methods or techniques will call out to you and will be more appealing than others.

Instead of chasing what they think will make them the most money I suggest pursuing what they're most passionate about instead. Passion begets work ethic, and work ethic begets money (usually).

If you do what you love, $$$ will typically follow.

Plus, often by pursuing a method that you truly enjoy or are interested in it will open other doors later on that you didn't know were present initially.

Ya I agree with you there. Newbies should consider doing what they like / what they are good at rather than getting into something that worked for someone else. I also believe that, when you do what you like, you have more chances of finding your own method or new concept of making money within your niche.

I'm just a newbie. the only way I have tried is to build an online shop. The business is not so good up till now. but I believe it would grow well step by step. (ps. I tend to rely on substantial business rather than online service for a living).

I honestly don't think you should rely heavily on what you like/passionate about. A business is still a business whether it's a brick and mortar type or online. Everything's dictated by what the customer wants, not yours. A passion is a great place to start, but sometimes it's hard to monetize it, at least to the level that you want.

One thing i have noticed is that many newbie IMers go from one train to another and end up not making as much as those that started with one target in mind.

I started by focusing on product creation, had been on it, and had grabbed all that should be.

There is no need to mention that i have made some pretty some from the niche and still making.

If want to diverse now, it will be much easier for me than it would have been several few years back.

I started looking into affiliate marketing cause the attraction of no product, no support was appealing. However, that doesn't mean it's necessarily easier, cause if the barrier to entry is low, then you naturally have more competition so you'll need to be exceptional to be above the rest.

Product creation was the next logical thing to do for me and because it does involve creating something of your own, the barrier to entry is a bit higher, plus you get the satisfaction of being able to have your own product.

These days I am in the process of creating short pdf reports about specific solutions to specific problems, and this is where I am at and have been sticking with it for the past few months.

    Hi:

    Shireen here :-)

Yes, there're lots of ways to make money online. The trick here is to be an expert in one of them.

Choose one of them, focus & become a MASTER.

The worst thing to do is jump from one method to another. "Jack of all trade but master of none!"

    My niche is eBay :-)

I always have a "daily strategy" written out. Even if I'm going to try something new, I see where it can fit into my over all strategy for the next few days/weeks. Then, I don't damage my existing lead flow but don't hold back on growing and learning. It's helped me stay focused and grow my business very quickly without getting too overwhelmed with new things to try and learn

I'm still new in this internet marketing business. Used to have information overflow for few years back, and my biggest problem would be my own inaction due to the overflow, or is it I'm overflown with information due to my own inaction? Well, whatever. :p

Recently (starting January this year), I really started to push myself hard, that I need to do something since I had wasted few years getting information and doing almost nothing (did something, but the persistence is not there). There were few dollars of affiliate commission (less than $20) I got since last year, unexpectedly, from the sign ups of the webhosting that I promoted on my blog. Never really thought there were people going to sign up through my relatively new blog.

So starting January, I did try promoting a couple of stuff that have affiliate commission attached, mostly through light social promotion via Facebook after having few reads on soft selling. Managed to get a total of 3 sales amounting to about $110 commission. I was really excited, but that's it, I'm not sure if I really liked doing what I did.

Having said that, I'm now moving on to product creation. Going back to the basic passion + skill + demand = $$$ formula, I'm working in a software development team for my day-to-day job, I like it, so I'm now starting to develop my own software product during my free time. Will start doing "small" products first to see if I can manage to make money from it. I guess I should be able to, but I need the first sale to happen to motivate myself more.

Oh well, I think I had let my fingers run own its own. Going back to the original topic, in regards to the information overflow issue, I decided to stop reading most of the information I received in my email. I'm slowly unsubscribing from mailing lists, which I don't really read most of the times - I randomly open few of them from the same mailing list, if there's nothing valueable, I'll unsubscribe, search for all emails from the same address, and archive it all. I set 2-3 hours of my night time Mondays to Fridays and up to 8 hours on Saturdays for my first product creation, and I'll try to rest on Sundays. Doing those really helped me focus more on what I should do, instead of endlessly learning new / repeated information I already knew and gaining nothing from it.

Check me out to see how I got to number 1 in less than a week with Yahoo. Mr Money Banks.

Mine was creating my own product and site, then promoting the hell out of it and getting my name out there. I do ChaCha also, not much at first but adds up by the end of the month.

I started with Squidoo, then made a site/blog with adsense, then did some affiliate stuff(not really), done some other things but i forget... and then....
I found out about Domain Flipping....
It is a great business to get into if you have common sense and hate writing articles and doing seo and all that nonsense. You get to match up end users with domains that fit their business. You have lots of freedom with it too. You can invest in a domain for the long term or keep doing quick flips or a combo of the two.

I still love make money blogging model. Yes I have tried affiliate marketing but now I am running my adsense site and for a quick cash I sell it immediately if it has generated revenue. If not any revenue I sell it after it has some traffic. If not (again) I sell it after I equipped it with pretty blog design. So far, this 3 strategies never fail, all of my sites has been sold (100% sold).
    Good luck

I've always concentrated on the MMO niche and it has served me well. My passion is in teaching people that they CAN be a success. It took me about nine months from "discovering" IM to getting out my first product.

Ironically enough, there is a product you can purchase in the WF that deals with information overload.
