How much traffic have you lost from EZA? Informal Poll.

This thread will sort of be like an informal poll.
I've lost roughly 30 - 40 percent of my traffic since the update.

None as I never post content to any site other than my own. I work for myself not Christopher Knight.

So apparently people posting content in other article directories are working for the directory owners and not for themselves. I guess you never heard of content syndication.

My first goal from the directories is always syndication, but when I do get a ton of high quality traffic to an article that turns out to be profitable, I'm definitely not crying about it! After all, you're only making money if the article directory visitor goes to your site, so either way, you get a new prospect.

I lost about 40% of the direct traffic from EZA.

          • For everyone that has lost significant traffic, what are your plans moving forward?

            Here are mine:

            - EZA will no longer be a primary article directory for my content. I was moving that way anyway this year because of the... shall we say...Adsense/Chikita Fiesta over there. It's God awful really.
            - I will be posting a little more content to my main sites. I always posted a unique version of any content I produced there anyway, but I will focus a bit more on domain strength, and less on article traffic promotions. That is what Google seems to be encouraging, which is fine by me.
            - And, as I have been doing all along, I will continue to syndicate as much as possible to other portals.

Pretty simple, just a slight change in focus. Btw, the sky is not falling, article marketing is still a great source of free traffic.

Since it's free to post on EZA or any other article directories, I must say that I'm not surprised to see that the traffics suddenly drop when EZA changed the rules.

One thing that I'm sure of, You can never get the word FREE & GOOD stand together. Free Things, won't last, you just can exploit it for a certain amount of time before things change. And once they do, you just have to find another free thing to count on

              :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Since I'm not using EZA, I don't have any difference in traffic count yet.

                That wasn't what happened.

It was the opposite, in fact: EZA changed the rules because the traffic dropped 35%/40%.

Ok, That's a new perspective to see things from. Perhaps EZA visitors are getting bored with the articles that keep on getting spin around and around.

When I see things from this angle, all I can say is : wow...a Complete different view from up here

                    Well ...

It's not really a "perspective", you know? It's more "historical fact". First Google changed their algorithm. Then EZA's traffic dropped 35% (they later said 40%). Then EZA announced on their blog that they were going to change some of their submission rules and policies because of the drop in traffic. And then they did so. That's just the order in which things happened.

I'm not quite sure you get this. Google changed their algorithm and EZA lost lots of traffic, EZA then change their rules as a direct result of Google changing.

So the traffic drop had nothing to do with EZA changing anything, it happened before they changed anything, Google changed.

I haven't seen any drop in traffic or rankings of any of my sites. I also however, haven't submitted an article to any directory for backlink purposes for a long time nor have I relied on it for traffic.

                    Which is probably the reason.

My traffic from EZA is about the same, from my articles that I have syndicated elsewhere is also about the same. I am not seeing much of a difference at all.

Some of my articles are cyclical niches, so the traffic goes up and down, but my evergreen ones are still evergreen.

I've spent some time checking my stats and article rankings over the past week and I can't see that I've lost any traffic (if I have it's very minimal).

As others have said, it's probably too early to tell the extent of the 'damage', but as far as I can see, any of my articles that were ranked on page 1 of Google are still there.

Personally I'm delighted with the changes at Ezinearticles, and although they're a little 'over' strict at the moment, I think it's definitely going to improve the future of article marketing.

I've lost about 50% from an article that has made me about $250 a month for the last 3 years. It's in a niche that is less relevant as the years go by, so I knew this day would come at some point anyway, Google update or not, but it's still sad to see it finally happen.

It's much too early to tell, for me ... but very little, anyway.

I've always made sure that the copies of my articles on my own sites outrank 90% of the EZA copies, 90% of the time.

Like many other successful article marketers here, I've never depended on EZA for traffic, but have been using them as an aid to syndication (which of course I continue to do).

To some models of article marketing, it's a disadvantage for article directory copies of one's articles to rank too well, so some of us actually welcome these recent developments.

The EZA copies of my articles aren't there for Google traffic to find. I've always wanted Google traffic to find my site, not EZA's site. They're there for internal EZA traffic to find.

So all you are using EZA for is link juice power, the ability for your site to rank higher and be found on google search results instead of the article page on EZA?

I can understand that because people who find your article on EZA do not necessarily click on your link so EZA are the only ones who benefit from direct traffic in that instance.

however you can increase your chances of getting that visitor who came through your article page on EZA by writing an impressive article which would have the reader converted into a guaranteed sale because of the educational value and assistance you provided.

I dont know if EZA internal traffic is very effective, most internal traffic will be webmasters who are also looking to build backlinks. If your title is very catchy thought it can attract quiet a few internal EZA visitors

On the contrary, that's not one of the things I'm using EZA for. For any remotely competitive or realistic keyword, article directory backlinks are close to useless. They're non-context-relevant PR-0 backlinks.

It depends what you're using article directories for. Internal traffic's not very effective to produce potential customers, because that's not how potential customers find articles. Fortunately, however, that's not what article directories are there for, not why they exist in the first place, and not why I'm using them.

I only checked 2 sites looking at the traffic 10 days before the update and 10 days after the update.

Well, I was actually surprised by what I found: Traffic from ezinearticles has doubled to both sites!

I wasn't expecting that at all because I know several of the articles I checked a few days or so ago have dropped in Google rankings. The only thing I can think of to explain it is that maybe it is just easier to find my articles now because they are thinning out the number of articles on their site. It was getting pretty ridiculous there. Tons of dead articles from what appeared to be numerous people trying article marketing, writing one to three articles and linking to their sites which now are offline. Maybe some of those articles have been removed too. You can imagine how many articles there would be like that from years of thousands of people trying bum marketing and so on.

Anyway, thanks. That is some good news. I knew traffic was up and I knew traffic from Google was up since they made this change. What I did not know was that despite a good number of the articles losing some rankings they are actually sending more traffic direct from ezinearticles. Geesh! What an update! =)

I'm sure those who used EZA as a selling tool or for direct traffic are crying right now. Like Alexa said, many of us never aimed for traffic from EZA.

When I say I get traffic from articles posted years ago on EZA - that traffic is coming from some well placed sites that reprinted my article (with live links as reputable site owners do).

People want to argue duplicate content till the cows come home - but it is the article syndication that brings traffic long terms from articles I've submitted to EZA.

That's why I don't worry about how fast I can write an article. I don't write to meet minimums at EZA and I don't worry about the initial views an article gets there. I don't backlink my submitted articles because I'm not concerned with high EZA ranking. My goal is to have those articles be useful to other site owners and be syndicated.

I'm not saying that's the only way to do thing with EZA - but right now I'm glad that's the method I use because I'm not taking a hit.

Hard to pinpoint but I know I've lost some due to EZA's overly strict policies and extremely long review time

There is such a thing as to much "quality control" and EZA has gone far beyond that point!

It depends what sort of "article marketing" you're doing, Rev.

Some of us think it's a bit "too little, too late" and that they should have gone much further with quality control a long time ago, and they're half-way there now, and that they'll go further in future (we hope), regarding editorial/quality-control.
