I want to get into IM

Hey all,

I'm a web developer in the UK who has been building web apps and sites for other people / companies for years, but really want to get into IM and build sites and tools for myself.

I have tried to get into IM before, but a big development job came in so I got tied up with that. Last time I was researching IM I was on a forum similar to this one, but found it to be full of charlatans and fraudsters. I bought a few ebooks from users there, and as you can imagine wasted money.

So what am I looking for?
Well if anyone would be willing to mentor me in IM I would be willing to pay or work quid-pro-quo building tools and sites to automate processes etc.

If you would be willing to help a noob please get in touch.

Thanks

    Hi

    I'm in the UK too

There certainly are some people to be aware of online that's for sure.

The best advice that I can give to you is spend a bit of time in places like this and get a feel for things.

Take your time and get to know people first as far as mentoring goes

    You may get some recommendations.

Have you any idea what method you would like to work on at all?

    Good luck
    Lynne

I feel your skepticism and to be honest there are a lot of pretenders on here. People making nothing that claim to be knowledgeable in making money.

My suggestion is to go one of two ways. Learn how to get on the front page for free - SEO or paid. Next is the conversion part. You either are forced to learn copywriting by trial and error or go find a course and focus on improving.

If you don't have a lot to test PPC I suggest SEO. The method that I am learning and just beginning to implement is the Google Sniper technique. George Brown is no fraud or scam artist, and I love his course.

First pick if you want to get on the front page of Google for free or paying and next realize that if you don't do Google sniping and want to do SEO, that it will take months to years to compete even with high powered backlinking tools, because you'll be competing with giants.

    Thanks for the quick replies.

I want to go either affiliate marketing or adsense route.
I have setup auto sites before so know a little about affiliate side of things, but I always struggle to get traffic.
This is where I'm looking for help really. SEO mentoring!

I have been reading through this forum for tips and ideas, and was thinking of starting by building an amazon parsing tool to find hot products and then auto build pages for the products. Then purchase rich keyword domains round the product niche?
Key is always traffic though. This is where I fail. I've spent all my dev career building sites and not building traffic.

      Hi again

If you can build tools that people will buy then I would do that.

There is nothing better or more profitable really than being the product creator.

Establish your reputation on here (and some of the other forums) and prove yourself to people then run a Warrior Special Offer for any tools that you make.

Surf around to see what it is that people need then just supply it simplez!

      Thanks
      Lynne

As far as SEO training I recommend Internet Income: Making Money on the Web Quick & Easy! Steps to Follow or George Brown's Google Sniper 2.0 - None of those links are affiliate links, just excellent courses on SEO. They key is to use that as a guide and don't be a product hopper.

    Thanks, Lynne.

If I built a tool that made the end user money it'd be a bit silly to sell to the masses. A bit like opening up the golden goose.
When I see people selling auto tools that make sites earning $1000's, yet they sell the tool for just $12, it makes me even more sceptical.

I suppose I should really just start expermenting. Write some articles on niches and start trying to build traffic.

      Hi

You don't have to go the route of that sort of tool. It wasn't really what I meant

There are many many people who identify a need like tools that make jobs easier for others. Think keyword research tool , redirect tools, cloning tools, spinners etc etc. Those can make people a lot of money.

      I'll leave you to it

I see what your saying now. I'd still prefer to broaden my horizons at this time. If it goes nowhere I'll get back to building for other peoples needs.

Your response is appreciated though, I hope I didn't offend.

I think the first thing you have to do is clarify your mind
and define what you really want to do. I mean, the IM
    subniche.

So, narrow down Internet marketing and pick just one thing
and learn all you can about it.

    You have lot of options...

    - Email marketing,
    - Social networking
    - SEO
    - Copywriting
    - Google Adwords
    - etc

It is a wise decision to get started as an affiliate because
there is no risk and you can learn the ropes.

I think getting a mentor is the best thing you can do,
nothing can accelerate your success more than that.

    Thanks,

SEO is the route I'm thinking is for me, but maybe it's not the easiest to start out with. Any thoughts on where to start?

Look, the first place to start is "Keyword Research". Find yourself 10-15 ready to buy keywords. Take the words and build a squeeze page and drive traffic to it and get 500 subscribers.

When you have 500 subscribers all kind of opportunities will surface. Think of each step as climbing a mountain.

When you get up there don't just sit, go and climb another one.

Sounds interesting. Can you elaborate further?
When you say 'ready to buy keywords' what do you mean exactly?

          Thanks

First you don't have enough posts to send a PM. I'm not going to make it public here. Send me a email to this address and I will explain it to you for FREE.

its really refreshing to read about someone with real, proven, technical expertise and the ability to create a new fresh product - There is too much duplication presented to potential buyers for IM. So if you have something different and genuinely helpful I say go for it. feels like there is a lot of great support on this forum which you can utilise as you are developing your product.

Right now Facebook business pages are hot and I see no cooling off in the near future. Any local business with 1 mile of your home will benefit from Facebook if done properly.
