Yes there are free ways to build a list from scratch.

One excellent way for example it to put a link to your squeeze page in your forum signature here. If the list is not IM related you can find forums for about any topic.

Just contribute to the discussions and really help the forum members and you will grow your list in no time.

For example:
Before I was publishing WSOs I had a link to my squeeze page in my signature here in the WF. Within a few weeks I had about 173 subscriber. It was a VERY simple squeeze page by the way. Nothing complicated. Whenever I would find a post that had a question in it I took the time to give a good answer.

Once your list is over 100 subscribers, you can post JV request in this forum and exchange ads and so on. You can build a list of 500 subscriber within a month that way and then grow it even faster.

You can also take the free report that you advertise in your signature and post it as WSO. If the report is somehow decent you can add 100 to 300 subscribers to your list every time you bump that WSO. And yes, I have also done that and it works.

It is not that difficult, there are tons of methods to
generate free traffic, just pick one and stick to it...

Don't jump from one method to another, give one method a
fair try, put effort and work into it and you will see that
it is going to pay off.

You can find active blogs and forums in your niche and
participate sharing good tips and advice.

You can write and submit articles to article directories,
etc.

Forum Marketing + Squeeze page has been beneficial to me. When I first started I had a free mail chimp list and promoted my own product to those interested in professional wrestling. It worked well enough to take the money made and re-invest.

The method that I'm using now makes me money + build my list at the same time.

Sell some resell rights products on ebay. When somebody bought, sell them the products + put in a link back to your website to opt in.

Yes there are free methods of advertising and promotion. I would pick only one from the list down below that really resonates with you. This 'free' activity is really not free since you will be required to spend a lot of time and effort in your promoting efforts. Make sure that you really enjoy this free method so the time you end up spending will be fun and not perceived as a lot of work.

Most new marketers will pick too many methods and quit out of frustration because they have not learned how to master one.

Put a link in your signature saying that you will get a free report when you click.. they will sign up for the free report and there you go. You can make a free report yourself or you can get PLR off of Tradebit.com for a fairly cheap amount.

There are ENDLESS amounts of ways to generate free traffic.

It won't cost money but it will cost you time!
But again, make sure to find out which have better conversions
so that you know which ones to spend the most time on.

PROMOTE PROMOTE PROMOTE! Everywhere you go, promote your product. If you are at a grocery store, ask strangers if they heard of your website or product. If not, then give the info to them. Sure not everyone will check it out but I guarantee 1 out of 10 will, it only takes 1 person to sky rocket a product if it is good. Always have your signature or website name with every single thing you post online. Promote it on Facebook and create a separate page just for your product. Promote on myspace, blogs, yahoo answers, craigslist, etc etc. Network, offer to promote someone else's product if they promote yours.

It is not the new ways of generating traffic to your opt in page, it is about doing the same thing until you get super result.

too many people give up too soon to ensure what they do work, and jump to the next method.

DO it until you know the inside out and then move on

You can use facebook to get you free traffic and build you a very huge list .. Just look for interested people in your niche and be friends with them by sending them a small message when asking to be their friend, then you can send them to your website or squeeze page and offer them a free gift like an ebook so they can add their name and email and be a part of your list .. In this way you will get free traffic and you don't have to pay ...

At my newest site, "The Traffic Blogger," I have a list of 150 people and it is all from free traffic building methods. All you need is a way to collect lists on your squeeze page (I talk about using autoresponders on my site) and a lot of traffic being sent there.

All free, but the growth will be slow until your squeeze page (I use a blog) becomes more popular. Takes time if you do it for free.

I haven't tried this yet but maybe some other warriors have and good give you some guidance to whether this works but.

I was at an event and the speaker said they would go and buy a PLR (private label rights) ebook or just write a quick one and post it on payspree.com as his own and give the affiliates 100% commission if they promoted it and only charged $1 for the ebook but before someone purchased he would send them to a squeeze page to capture their details before they got the $1 ebook..

This will get "buyers" on your list
