That's a great idea!

I also like to research in "real" books and magazines. The writing style is different than online writing, and so I find it easier to rephrase. That's just me.

I also, like many others, find it faster to speak my articles than write them, particularly if I'm looking at source material for facts and statistics while I'm composing.

Sounds like a good plan for writing about niche topics that are open to lots of personal experience stories (like self-improvement and weight-loss).

For niche topics that are more technical (like mortgage lending and alternative energy), I like using text sources, especially if there are statistics or numbers involved.

It's always good to have a variety of tools in the old writing toolbox!

I would disagree with that statement. You need to be careful.

I have used Youtube for research in the past but as with any other sources you should not use one source and simply reword what was said in the video because their are copyright issues.

If you use multiple Youtube vids to get some ideas for original content I don't see a problem with that but creating an article based off of rewording the script of one Youtube video is still plagerism even if it's harder to get caught. Basically all I'm saying is: Research = Good |Plagerism = Bad

That's a terrible idea unless it's your own original video. If you write someone's content word for word it's plagerism. Even if you make some effort to reword it, that's still plagerism.

Like I said in my post above, if you use multiple sources for research there's no problem but taking all of your information from one video is no different than taking all of your information from one article and taking all of your information from one source and rewording it is plagerism.

If you want to use Youtube as a place to research articles you have to view multiple videos to get ideas for your own original content, don't simply steal someone else's work.

Youtube can be a great place to do some research (I've used it myself) but please don't think it's okay to steal someone's content just because they put it in an audio/video format and you're putting it into a written format, that does not make it okay.

Copyright issues aside, it's just not smart to use 1 single video, article, or whatever, for the basis of your article. The person your copying could be a moron.

Multiple sources for research will not only keep you above board legally and ethicly it will also help you cross check some facts so you're not regurgitating what someone else with no knowledge of the subject states as fact.

I agree 100%, though youtube would be an interesting way to conduct your research.

I thought about doing this with videos from the library, (that you can now get online). I didn't think Youtube would have enough for reference material, (since it seems to be more of a hobby site). But after seeing this suggestion, I may have to think again.

But you're right... Youtube should only be used for referencing. The work of article-writing needs to fall on the shoulders of the author. And this goes for both words AND ideas!
