Lulu.com Down - Need Replacement Print on Demand Site

Hey Warriors,

Just found out at 11 p.m. Monday night that Lulu.com's ordering process is down . The live chat agent told me that they discovered that day and didn't even have a workaround yet. I was told to check back Tuesday night/Wednesday a.m.

The thing is, I have several orders of a printed manual that I sell which I need fulfilled. Is there any other print-on-demand sites that you'd recommend instead?

    Cafe press...might be a little pricey for your needs though.

        One of my forum members, Jon Anderson (who is an offline publisher), recently posted a whole series of fascinating articles on print on demand. The series is called 'From Ebook to Paperback in 16 Days' and discusses the pros and cons of several services such as Lulu.

        He then went on to turn the entire series into a paperback and had it up on sale (and actually making sales) in 16 days from start to finish. Very interesting stuff.

    Amazon's POD company is BookSurge, but you should check out Lightning Source if you want your book available to most major booksellers. With Lightning Source you are the publisher and have to provide your own ISBNs. BookSurge is the publisher and they pay you are royalty of 35%. If you are game you can make more from Lightning Source.

    I've been selling an ebook with createspace since January of 2009 and have found that it works great. They can automatically list the book on amazon.com and Amazon takes 40%. So you make 60% which is way better than what you get with booksurge. However, I don't think createspace will help my book get into book stores and I think booksurge does help with that.

      I just checked out Lightning Source - from what I can see they require you to be a fully fledged publishing company - they seem quite clear that they don't handle individual authors?

      Has anyone got a workaround before I approach them by any chance?

        No, you can be an independent (well you can here in the UK with LS), great service too.

      Vervante.com automatically lists your book on Amazon and Boarders as well.

      And they only charge you the actual print free + first class shipping via USPS with no markup and the % that Amazon takes which is much less than the 40% you are talking about with that company you are mentioning.

      Vervante is a really great company, with great customer service, with thousands of publications on Amazon.

      So many people pay far to high a % for services that offer less control and profit.

      Best of all you get to sell your book however you want and the Amazon listing is just set and forget advertising and a secondary stream of income. If you want to promote it on Amazon you can but personally I would drive all my sales through my automated funnel.
