Is 21.43% Amazon conversion good?

This is the first time I am starting to earn from Amazon and I have no idea what are the standards when it comes to earning. Doing SEO with CPA and having an average of 15% to 18% conversion is fine with me. How about 21.43% Amazon conversion (SEO and not PPC traffic? Is this good?

Thanks,
Adie

That's a good thing. Most Amazon affiliates are converting around 4%. So it looks like you're bringing in good traffic. Keep up the good work, and more importantly, scale it up!

4%? That's like a adsense CTR..I think people who are getting this low conversion are buying traffic, or placing ads in non-related sites...

Not necessarily Jason. What is your percentage?

I think a lot of it is due to the fact that Amazon only has a 24 hour cookie which is why you really have to target buyers who have their credit card in their hand. (old cliche I know!)

I have had some rare months where conversions have been over 30% but, in the main, I agree that circa 5% is not unusal and is more like the norm.

PS: Just logged into Amazon and my conversion for this month is just under 6%.

  • I get 0% and am clueless as to why. I have relevant books in my niche, sometimes they are the focus of posts on a blog, and yet they are lucky to see a couple of clicks, let alone make a sale. I have no idea how to do it better than the way I am now. I think I may be misjudging what my audience wants, as I am assuming it's marketing books.

I found this post by googling "what is a good amazon conversion?" I was curious myself if my own conversion rate is good, average...whatever. So, reading this thread, I am quite happy with my average 15%. I am interested in knowing the average conversion rate for particular products - mine are all hair and beauty products and I am curious if books or other things have a better average conversion.

The thing about Amazon conversion rate is that everyone talks about their rate on the Amazon site as in, people who click to Amazon and then buy something. You could have 1,000 people view your site, 5 of them click on an Amazon link, and all 5 of them buy something. Doesn't mean you had 100% conversion, although that's what your Amazon stats will say. You can also have 5 click, but only 1 person buy 5 different things and you'll still get 100%.

When you give a number like 21.43% conversion, that typically means you had like 9 clicks and 2 sales, right? Not really a very large sample to go by...

Conversion rate, when talked about by Clickbank or CPA promoters, means the number of people that reach your site and then go through with a purchase or email/whatever submit. A real Amazon conversion rate would be the percentage of people that visit your site and then continue to Amazon and buy something.

I actually did not check the traffic data but checking my amazon data, I got 83 delivered items out of 387 clicks. That's how I get 21.43%. My site has 88% visitors coming from search engines and has about 650 unique per day. I understand what you mean.

Just to clarify, when people come to your site with the amazon ads there are 2 processes in which the visitor takes before they actually buy a product. First they click on your ad which takes them to amazon then they either make the decision and click the buy button on amazon.

Your 21.43% conversion rate, is that of people visiting your site and clicking on your links or is that of the people that click the links and buy the product? there is a big difference there.

I put a site up in January that is getting 50% and I've got another site that's nearly 4 years old and that gets zilch despite having a heck of a lot more traffic and clickthroughs than the new site. Different niches, different results.

Just out of curosity, what is the price of the product? Is it something that doesn't cost a lot so people will easily whip out a credit card and buy it or is it something a little more expensive so people are a little more hesitant before buying?

I can't really tell whether this range of products are expensive or not because I don't own 1 but these products are only available in Amazon.

Yeah, that is actually an excellent result. Remember that the ultimate priced item to sell on Amazon is around $100-$150...

This varies a bit with different products in different niches but $150 seems to be cheap enough for a lot of people to buy often, but not so cheap that your commissions are low.

Is this your amazon conversion rate? If this is the rate shown by amazon, then it is pretty normal for the low priced items.

I think many people get confused about the conversion rates in general.

The conversion rate shared by amazon is not your website's conversion rate. It is the conversion rate coming from visitors who have ended on amazon website. This doesn't take into consideration the click through rate that you have on your website.

Let's say you get 2000 uniques per month to your website and have a CTR of 40%. This means that you have sent 800 visitors to amazon. If Amazon converts 10% of those visitors you end up with 80 sales.

Now let's say that you have the same number of visitors coming to your website but instead of a CTR of 40% you have a CTR of 10%. this means that you send 200 visitors to amazon. Now if you convert 20% you'll end up with 40 sales.

As you can see the conversion rate shown by amazon is higher in the second example however you made twice as much sales in the first example.

This is why the amazon conversion rate is quite irrelevant and you should calculate your website conversion and concentrate most of your efforts there. there isn't much you can do once your visitor hits Amazon.

I see people sharing low conversion rates here. To me the higher end products should convert anywhere from 5% up to 10-15% and if you don't get that kind of conversion chances are you are doing something wrong.

The kind of visitor that you send to Amazon is very important. If you have a generic blog about beauty and skin care and use some amazon products in order to ake some affiliate cash, chances are your conversion rate is going to be on the lower end. Your goal as an amazon affiliate is to intercept a buying decision. This is why reviews work great. The bulk of a review site traffic comes from keywords that are brand or model names. Internet searchers who are looking for a specific product are more likely to buy from you.

Another problem you guys might have is to not think on the same level as your average visitor. Someone looking for "cat litter" or "cat litter box" is more likely to read a 200-300 personal review and try to identify himself/herself with the reviewer on the problems he has with his actual "litter". So you just bore him/her if you write 1000 words on that specific litter. some items ares simply not made for long reviews it is really no use to create long boring reviews full of pictures and videos for these items.

      Great Job!
I only average around 8-9% my item price ranges are around $50 to $600.
The higher priced items typically convert at around 3% and the $50 to $100 items convert at around 11%.

But real world it looks like this.
3,000 ex match searches W/average pos #3 on page 1 = 375 uniques per month 40% CTR on uniques X 8.5% average conversions = 12.75 sales X $8.25 average com = $105.18 per month average per site I build per month.

That's what the real world looks like for me.
