You must know this tool: PayPal Fee Calculator

Hi warriors,

Today I had to make a payment for a service, and instead of doing the tedious calculation of the PayPal fees, I found a great tool that makes the calculation for you.

The tool is: PayPal Fee Calculator by Ryan Olbe

It is very useful and easy to use.

Why do you need to figure the fees?

When you need to pay an exact amount for a service. Then the service provider will get the full amount of money for their service, without discounting by PayPal.

I don't like that and I would never do that. When the service provider set up PP as his/her payment processor - s/he was aware of the fees. Period. The fees are business expense that they can use against their gross income.

Same thing if you accept credit cards via a merchant account and a payment gateway: the seller has to pay the fees to the payment processor.

Recently, there was in the news that merchants can NOT pass on the fees to the customers... which I like (when I am a customer, LOL). This ruling means, if a customer paying by cash has to cough up $12, you can NOT charge $12.80 for those paying with CC even if your fee would be $0.80.

So, to be honest, I don't see the usefulness of this calculator... because it doesn't make (business) sense to me as a buyer to worry about your fees, if you are a seller.

I've used it before to send exact amounts of money to friends and business partners.

Say Joe needs $75 then I would send him $77.55 so that he receives the $75 he needed.

PS. I've also used it to send money to Warriors so that they could join the War Room here.

Well, I was leaning towards what Istvan said which is why I didn't see the purpose, but Michael raises some good points.

I didn't think of that because I've never sent funds by PayPal to people as a gift or personal reason. I've only used it for purchases and to pay outsourcers.

I do think this is a very good idea because fees add up and will take away from the total income of the seller...
