How to get a lot of people to use my URL Shortener

Hi

I have just published a new URL Shortener website:

URLNumber (dot) com

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get a lot of people to use it?

Also do you have any constructive criticisms of the homepage/site?

TIA
Mark

You're selling a single digit number extension of your website for 10m? LOL

Ummm, why would I want this? I already have a website, now I'm going to use a confusing, difficult to remember url with subdomain?

Sorry, bad idea on your part. Go straight to jail, do not collect $200.

Click the 'What's a URL?' link on the toolbar at URLNumber.com to see the Amazon example for explanation of why. Also then click the 'Why URLNumber.com?' link for other reasons.

Is this similar to bit.ly or other URL shortening services? What's different / better about it? Use the benefits (not the features) to give people a reason to go there. How to get them to even take a look?

Press releases - IF it's good enough, it'll be newsworthy to someone, somewhere. Plus you'll get backlinks syndicated that way.

Send a note to e-zine, blog, and site owners who cover that sort of development. They need content and like to have something new to tell their readers about.

Do the same old article marketing routine as everybody else does.

Try and get some of the site who currently use the other URL shorteners to offer yours as an alternative too, but it had better be good and offer a compelling reason for their members/visitors to do so.

GO to forums and talk about it....oh, wait, you've done that part already.

Thanks opportunitiesaplenty for all of that -- that's helpful.

URLNumber.com is similar to the other URL Shorteners apart from that it uses numbers only and not a mix of numbers and letters. We think OtherShortener.com/5Sl1O0ijI can be more difficult to read from a printout or over the phone (e.g. via a tech-support person say someone at Dell trying to refer someone to a technical article). Also numbers are more universal for non-English countries -- e.g. China, Arabic, Japanese etc.

There are other reasons/benefits that can be seen by clicking the "Why URLNumber.com?" link on the homepage.

We have emailed the people at Twitter.com about it but no reply as yet...

Thanks Forum89. Similar to Bit.ly or adf.ly except that it uses numbers only. From my other reply:

"We think OtherShortener.com/5Sl1O0ijI can be more difficult to read from [an email] printout or over the phone (e.g. via a tech-support person, say someone at Dell trying to refer someone to a technical article). E.g. putting your phone number in there to refer it back to your website. This way if someone knows your phone number they can automatically know your website or Facebook page.

  • Why would anyone use it? It's not like there are already many in existence, so what sets your site apart.

Can you prove to people how fast it is... how stable it is... do you have the networking to support massive loads of traffic being redirected?'

Any smart person would want to know that they were using a service that was going to work well and be around a while.

    It's a neat idea.

Why don't you build another one and just sell the "domain":

Myword.com or something like that (maybe xword.com or yword.com etc. and then/whatever).

People can then buy their words.

Isn't urlnumber.com too long of a url shortener?
I did a quick domain search, and urln.co and urln.org are available! you might want to get one!
