I do well with CL, but believe it or not Backpage.com gets me more traffic simply due to the sheer volume I can post with the software I use. BP doesn't track IPs, you don't have to change your ads up, you can post up to 50 ads on one email address. It's completely automated. Great little tool to have. I know someone at BP, and they send me their analytics every month. They got 15 million visitors this month, 300 million page views. That is up from 4.5 million in June.

I am actually working on a video training course on how to use the BP software, but it is on the list of things to do. I do offer one on one consulting for the BP software, and I will give any Warrior members half off. PM if anyone is interested. Great tool for CPA offers, affiliate marketing. Or anything else for that matter.

John
Are you still planning on making a video for BP?

What is the software that you use to automate this process?

Thanks.

I have a new JV offer that involves CL and CPA.

Thanks for the info...

I would be interested to give outsourcing backpage ads a try just so I don't have to mess with all of Craigslist's BS. You just never know what they are going to do next!

Just remember...don't put all your eggs in one basket. Craigslist could change something up tomorrow and you could be back to square one with no income if that was your only source of traffic...

Thanks,

Chris

Let me know what kind of video you want for BP, and I will make it. I do have a video series I am working on for both CL, and BP, but that I am going to actually sell, cause it will be much more detailed, and a lot more work. I am still learning the CL posting software that I have and want to make sure it is duplicatable for the masses.

I do offer one on one BP software training, and CL training also. PM me if you are interested or hit me up on Yahoo IM (jstover77).

That is a neat trick with the wireless data account. Still seems like a bunch of work, but I guess it depends on the quality of leads you are getting, and what the conversion rate is.

Yes this is very true. Looking at other ads that successfully post is great advice. There is only some much you can drawl from looking at an ad though. There are so many moving parts. Different categories have different filters. You definitely have to get involved. If your in it to win it though, Craigslist is an absolute gold mine!!

I offer one on one coaching now for anyone interested. I have CL down now, so PM me if interested. BP is also a specialty of mine. Great for SEO, and backlinks. I give Warriors discounts.

So, what is being discussed here is a method to spend hours of your day trying to cheat and spam Craigslist?

I've got a question for you.

I've identified some craigslist posters who are posting on a large scale to promote their businesses.

I've noticed that at the end of each ad, in background color text, they will put a long list of keywords. I understand that.

What I don't understand is the following: After the long list of keywords, in the same background color text, there will be a paragraph or so of what I would call "gibberish". It has nothing to do with the ad at all. It could be a paragraph from wikipedia about the 1812 War, etc...just random stuff.

Is an autoposter they use doing this, or is this something they add to each ad to keep them unique, etc....?

Yes Paul...thats exactly it.

And one of these types of threads comes up at least once a week lately. Not only do they never get deleted, they always get a ton of replies and 'support'.

I wonder how long this type of thread would last if it was 'how to cheat and spam the WF WSO or Classified ad section'?

The people who post in support to this thread are the exact same ones who will bitch about Craigslist when CL starts to make some ridiculous new rules to try to thwart this type of thing...exactly like Ebay has done recently.

Crap where you eat, then bitch about it when they start to refuse you service. Makes a lot of sense.

Yes its a autoposter and it uses the random text to help keep the ad more random for a better posting %

Bla, blah, blah. Don't you have a moral authority meeting to go to. I am so sick of you people with your spam BS! Take a hike, and hijack someone else's thread. There are actually people that want to learn this stuff.

This is why I love this forum! There is so many people who will sit and call people who post on CL cheats, and spammers, yet they have never made a single dime on the Internet.

Again, this is an Internet Marketing forum. I understand that WF is a very whitehat type site, but there are many struggling marketers that want to learn this stuff. If the mods thought it was so bad, it would be deleted, but it never is.......is it? Doesn't that tell you something? Start your own thread titled "I hate Craigslist spammers". You'll have plenty people drinking the kool aid.

Yes that is just random phrases, which are placed in the bottom of the ad, usually with what are called tokens within the software.

From what I have been hearing recently, it isn't the smartest idea, but people are using it.

If you look in the source code you can see the code. It looks something like this.

The "mods" don't delte threads like this because (a) you and I and every other member of this forum are the "mods" and (b) this thread doesn't violate the rules of this forum.

No one is "hijacking" your thread. To hijack a thread means to take it in an entirely new direction on a totally unrelated topic.

The topic of this thread is NOT "how to post on Craigslist". That can be learned by simply reading the instructions and TOU on the Craigslist site.

The topic of this thread is how to violate the Craigslist TOU and spam their site. You, and some of the respondents to your thread are of the opinion that it's a good idea and a worthwhile way to run your business. I and a few others have a differing opinion and think that "struggling marketers" might benefit from having a little light shed on the subject.

The path you so ardently advocate will bring traffic to your sites...for awhile. Then, as you've pointed out, Craigslist will counteract your ploy and you'll have to find another way around them. You've accomplished two things: you've made work for the people at Craigslist and you've made work for yourself. You've also brought us a step closer to the day when no one can derive any benefit from posting on Craigslist.

The same effort expended on finding ways to cheat can be used to get traffic to your sites legitimately. The best part is that you only have to expend the effort once and you'll build a long-term business that doesn't require constant changes and starting over everytime your latest ploy is thwarted.

After all is said and done, there's a lot more said than done.

I DO occasionally post on Craigslist to promote my business. But much less often now than before.

I rarely use Craigslist now because the OP and others like him have pretty much ruined it. Any legitimate post gets lost in the 'spam'.

I don't delude myself into thinking I can make a dent in spam. Their ilk has been with us since we climbed down out of the trees.

My comments are aimed at those who are trying to learn how to make a living from the internet and seeking the best path to follow. The OP suggests one path. I propose another.

It's a matter ov "values". Values are not, in and of themselves, intrinsically good or evil. That's a judgement call.

"Eat or be eaten" is one 'Law of the Jungle'. "Live and let live" is another. Both are legitimate choices.

The success of the human species in achieving dominion is a result of choosing to cooperate with each other. We are weak and puny compared to successful solo predators but by banding together cooperatively and agreeing not to prey on each other, we've managed to survive and prosper.

The OP has chosen the 'eat or be eaten' model which supposes that the ends justify the means. He doesn't care what effect his methods have on others as long as he gets his and to hell with the rest of us.

I'm of the opinion that cooperation, collectively aggreeing on a set of rules and abiding by them, is a better way to go. Your mileage may vary.

After all is said and done, there's a lot more said than done.

Good stuff John.

I know a guy that used to teach cl posting, but I never took his advice.

After watching your videos and reading all your posts I am going to give it a try,
but I would like to do it using dial up, becasue I do not know if I will stick with it, and don't want a long term contract with verison when I am not using the service.

Can anyone tell me the best way to get started using dial up.

a. place to sign up,
b. cost
c etc.

Thanks,
Jim

First, you make assumptions about what I post, and how much I post. You have no idea what I post. Therefore, you are just like all the other people who lop every CL poster into one category (spammers).

Second, if I had a 'eat or be eaten' mentality, I would have never shared any of this info on this forum on how to post ads. I would keep it all to myself.

Listen, I make a lot of money from CL, and in my eyes I do it ethically. It is just amazing to me that someone can even parallel posting ads on Craigslist to the "success of the human species". That's hilarious!

Listen, you can hate all you want. I just don't understand why you care so much? Last time I checked, breaking a websites TOS, doesn't equate to me being a bad person.

This thread is titled "How I successfully post on Craigslist", not "How Spammers Ruined Craigslist" or "Craigslist Posters Have Ruined Humanity". There are many people who want to learn how to post on CL in this forum. If you learn how to post can drive tons of traffic and sales to your website. I am not sanctioning using CL as a sole means of driving traffic, at all, but I think it is a shame if you do not utilize it as one of your methods of driving traffic.

Earthlink is the best (this comes from a super poster who rated all the dial up companies for this). It will run you around $9.99 a month I believe, but they have specials

Let me reply with a little anecdote:

Teddy Roosevelt was out riding on his ranch with some of his cowboys.

One of them spotted a calf which had wandered from a neighboring ranch. "Mr. Roosevelt?" He said, "Why don't I slap our brand on that calf and turn it into our herd? No one would be the wiser."

Teddy Roosevelt turned to his foreman and said "Pay this man his wages and escort him off my ranch. Any man who would steal for me would steal from me."

How big a leap is it from violating a websites TOS to violating an NDA or the terms of a PLR/MRR/RR license agreement? My world is a little more black and white than yours. I believe that if you'll do the one you'll do the others.

Now let me toss the question back at you. Why do you care what I think?

After all is said and done, there's a lot more said than done.

I don't. Just tired of the "holier than thou types" coming in thread, and taking it off topic. Seriously dude, instead of wasting your time writing long winded analogies, and ridiculous metaphors, why don't you use that energy to make money??

I use Class C Private Proxies for almost all my posting. You have to find ones that are clean, and exclusive to you only though. There is a lot of junk out there so be careful. I also heard about IP rental, but I have yet to hear any reviews. That will only work if they are renting out clean IPs every time.

Private proxies sound like they would be very hard to use, but believe it or not, it is very simple. It is all done through your browser.

jstover77 thanks for taking the time to educate a lot of people on this subject. Craigslist moves quickly at stamping out any new multiple posting methods, and I noticed you haven't posted in awhile regarding whether the method remains successful or not. Is it still successful?

Thanks

Yes, the basic concept is the same, but since I made the video, I have become much more advanced at posting. I now use software to post on Craigslist, and I post around 200 ads a day in the services section.

Craigslist has made some changes since I made the video, and I have also learned some different tactics to get around the many filters.

Here is a my guide for posting on Craigslist. Don't forget to thank me

Emails/CL Accounts/PVA(Phone Verified Accounts)

There are 3 basic accounts you can use with Craigslist.

One is just using your email, and verifying the link in your email. **This is the least used method anymore on a bulk level, and you will get ghosted A LOT! Craigslist seems to like accounts. Two, Non-Phone Verified Accounts. If you have a clean IP you can use Non-PVA accounts which don't require a phone verification. You can use NON-PVAs in every section except All Services, and Adult Gigs. Three, is Phone Verified Accounts (PVAs). PVAs are always required in the services section, and the adult gigs, and if you have a soft blocked IP, you need them in every section.

OK, so Craigslist has basically gone on a rampage in the last few months, and are blocking IP pools like crazy. The difference between a clean IP, and a soft blocked IP is that, a soft blocked account will require a phone verified account. If the IP is clean, a CL account(non PVA) or email is required.

**In my experience you will get ghosted a lot less if you use CL accounts(non PVAs), and Phone Verified Accounts (PVAs)**

The only place people seem to getting clean IPs anymore that post in bulk is either by DSL, or Dial Up. Most broadband cards, almost all proxies have been soft blocked. **If you go the proxy route, DO NOT use free proxies. Most of these are junk, and have been blocked by CL.

**If you use PVAs, and NON PVAs, CL will put them on hold. It's part of the gig. If your accounts gets put on hold, just forget about it, move on, and buy or make new accounts. The general rule is try not to post more than one ad per 48 hours per account. You can do 1-2 ads per account, but you risk them getting put on hold much faster**

Titles

Try to variate your titles as much as possible. If you use software, you can use what are called tokens, which will variate them. If not you will just want to create a swipe file with a multitude of titles to choose from.

If you are posting 50 ads, try to have at least 20 titles. You hypothetically could post the same title if you are posting on separate accounts, but the next day you will have to create a whole new title for each ad, or you will get the duplicate ad error message.

**Google Loves CL**
Do some proper keyword research, and try to variate those titles with the keywords interchanged within the ads. Not all of CL has do follow tags, but if the page does, you can sometimes see the ad on the first page of Google within hours.

This is especially good with local businesses. For example "Plumbing Service In Los Angeles", "Affordable Plumbing Service Los Angeles CA". Use your keyword with the city, and bam, you can get first page rank a good amount of time depending on the competition. Backpage.com, and Kijiji.com are also great for this.

Ad Content

I personally only use image ads. Text ads are just so annoying with all the filters CL has, and words that trip them. I make every ad into a picture file. There are a million ways to do this, but use screen shot software to capture your image, and then upload it to Photobucket. This is the fast way to do it. I use Jing (Jing | Add visuals to your online conversations), which is a free screen shot software. Another popular screen shot video is Snagit.

If I want a very professional ad I just pay my designer to builds the image ad for me for $50. This guy does killer image ads for $50 (Websites,Graphics,Logos,Internet Marketing,Web Traffic) You can also build the image ad yourself in Paint, or Photoshop.

Now, what you want to do is create yourself multiple Photobucket accounts. Let's just say you want to post 50 ads per day. For that I would create 5 accounts, and I would upload 10 individual images per account. **It can be the same image, just rename the file 10 different times** For example: original image file name is jstover77...I would then rename it 10 times, and create multiple names for it. Usually I will just name them strings of numbers. Sounds like a lot of work, but it really isn't when you get the hang of it.

**Important**
After each account created, just clear your cookies, and cache just to be safe.

Also, don't create more then 10 accounts on the same IP, or photo*bucket will block you.

The most important thing is just making sure that each ad body is somewhat unique and has some random text related to your category. Make sure you change your image files every week or two to keep them fresh.

Links in Your Ad

I do not put links in my ads, cause it just leaves a footprint for CL. What I do is put the URL in the image ad. From my experience, f the person is to lazy to type in your URL in the browserm they are most likely not going to buy anything from you.

Now if you are hell bent on using a URL in your ad or a clickable image, then you best buy up a bunch of domains, and redirect them to your main site. Otherwise using the same URL will get you blocked sooner than later.

Flagged Ads/Ghosted Ads

Ghosting occurs when it shows green in your account, and says it is posted, yet it never shows up. Ghosting happens to even the best posters. I would say 10-20% is the norm. If you are getting ghosted more than that, you need to strip your ad down, and figure out what it is that is causing the ghosting. Start with the ad content/image. Next try a new title. Then try another account. Ect, ect...

Flagging occurs all over Craigslist. As you can see just from this thread, many don't like people who bulk post, and many have wayyyyyyyy to much time on their hand, and God only knows why they sit there and flag like it's their job. If you ads are very spammy, then you will get this a lot. If you are selling a legit product or service it is usually a competitor.

Unfortunately you can not control flagging, it's part of the gig. Here is one thing I do if I know it is a competitor. Email them and tell them you know they are flagging your ad, and if they do not stop, you will just flag right back. On top tell them you have flagging software that is push button, and will flag according to keywords. Tell them if they don't stop you will flag all their ads. Trust me this will work 90% of the time. If your ads are spammy, don't even waste you time.

Changing Your IP

This is the single most important thing you need to do. You must rotate IP addresses regularly. I try to not post more than 2-3 ads per IP per day. Many people don't understand how to change your IP, but it really isn't that complicating if you know what you are doing.

Here is the list of ways you can change you IP.

Dial Up- simply disconnect, and reconnect, and you have a new IP. Try to use a lesser known dial up company in your area. The IP pools tend to not be used and abused.

DSL- a lot of people like Verizon due to the large amount f IP pools they have. To change your IP with DSL, just reset you modem.

Proxies- If you can find a vendor that sells exclusive proxies, then this is a good route to go. Most proxies will come like this IP:Port:User:Pass. If you can find a good vendor then they should give you directions on how to use them. It's a very simple process. I know where to get them so PM me if you need them.

IP Rental- You can rent IPs from IP rental. Go to IP Rental - Technical Overview for more info.

Broadband- Simply disconnect, and reconnect. Be careful though. CL knows all the broadband providers IP pools, and your accounts will get put on hold much faster than some of these other tactics

Cable- Not worth it unless you know how to screw around with MAC addresses, and IP config release.

FIOs- Forget about it. Not even worth it.

OK, so that is it. I am sure I may have missed something, so feel free to PM me if you have any questions. Oh and just to let everyone know, I do Backpage, and Craigslist software consulting, and I also sell Phone verified accounts, and proxies.

Trust me. You can make A LOT of money on CL. I know guys who make $1K to $3K per day. My best day was $4k. 100 million visitors a month...convert a fraction of them and your rich

The key to Craigslist is have something that you can sell that people want. Like stuff that you would never think of. I have a customer that sell baby cloths, one that sells office chairs, and one that sells this scrap book machine called a Cricut? They all wipe up, and the Cricut company does $30K-$40K a month just from CL. It's crazy!

Why is it so hard for people to just play by the rules? Craig's List obviously doesn't appreciate your spam but you keep it up anyway. Nice way to run a business.

Yeah the world really needs more Craig's List spammers.

No, I actually took that page down a long time ago. I was offering the service up until a month ago, but CL made some major changes recently, which has made it very difficult to run a profitable service. I am actually providing more SEO services to my clients now. I only post for myself now. It saves me a lot of headaches to be honest with you.

I post the same ad to CL every day of the week. The ONLY thing I change is the ad title, nothing else! I have one ad for each day of the week. Each has a unique title. I simply re-post the ad when the old one expires. I use a clickable image ad hosted with photobucket.com. (rel="nofollow"). I also use the same special characters in the title every day. The ad links to a squeeze page. I have been using the SAME ad and technique for over TWO YEARS and my CL account has never been banned and I have NEVER had an ad deleted.

Ya, you are only posting one ad per day. That's easy. I was posting 1,500 times that a day Try posting anything more than one ad per day a consistent basis. You will see. It's a whole new bag.

I would like to offer a third option for acquiring multiple IPs. Dial-Up was mentioned as was a broadband card. Many of you however have an existing way to mimic the broadband card without even knowing it. Its called tethering. You can use a USB cable connected to your cell phone and enable the Internet Connection Sharing. Just like a broadband card you get almost DSL speed. Like the broadband card you also can disconnect and then reconnect your Internet connection through the tethered phone to acquire a new IP. You may also get a better deal on a data plan using an unlimited broadband plan for a smartphone, blackberry or iPhone. I have used tethering on several promotions for my offline business as well as posting Real Estate Listings which contrary to what some label as SPAM here is perfectly acceptable content for CL postings. The video below explains in more detail.

Happy Posting.
