How do you decide what posts to read?

This is more of a curiosity question. There are SO many posts being made on this forum (including the sub-forums), it is impossible to keep up with all of them.

I tend to skim the headlines and if it doesn't catch my interest, I'm on to the next. Seems like generic headlines like "I need help" are the worst, so I never take the opportunity to find out what it is they need help with.

So how do you decide what posts to read?

Two things. First if they really strike my interest. Secondly, to be honest if a thread has too many posts it's just a bit intimidating to think about reading the whole thread.

For me, I prefered to read forum that tackles about marketing, questions that I think I can answer and problems that I can give tips or solutions.

If the title of the thread is interesting, I click!

I also sometimes will go through this forum and a couple other areas and look for the posts that haven't had much attention, and respond to them.

I look at posts that catch my attention be it the title or whatever, also sometimes it is nice to go onto the I need help threads as you may actually have the answer that the individual is looking for and this builds a nice relationship with others on the forum and there is nothing wrong with that.

it is easy to attract my attention, but hard to keep it, I can read everything, but I can jump over some meaningless posts...
mostly I am attracted by title, suppose like everyone else...

I read those at the top of the page until I get bored. Plain and simple.

Every day I tell myself I really need to limit myself because this forum is damn addictive. Hard to do

        I know the feeling .

One thing I do that helps is mark each forum read after skimming or reading. That way, I know where I left off the last time.

After playing around a bit with a few approaches, I can now skim the main forum in a minute or so.

There are a couple things that I look for when deciding which posts to read and then comment on.

    1) Does the post interest me? Is there a topic that draws my attention to them more than others.

    2) Is this a topic that I would use some information and/or help on?

    3) The number of people that have posted on a certain topic. If there is a lot I may click it to see what is being talked about.

    4) If I can help with a situation or specific topic. (We are here to help each other after all!)

At the moment, like most people on the web -- I spend about seven seconds scanning and wait for something that grabs my interest! (like your post ).

    ..skip the I'm broke
..skip the why is my post deleted
    ..skip the I hate autoblogging
..skip the everything is dead..article marketing..adsense..IM in general
..skip the I know how Google does..(anything)

Then I read the six that are left

If the title arouses my interest, I'll rest my cursor on the thread to read the pop-up preview. If that holds my interest I'll open the thread.

If the person who started the thread is a friend, or someone whose posts are consistently good, I'll open the thread (whether I like the person or not).

If the topic looks like something I can help somebody with, I'll sometimes open the thread. It gets old answering the same questions over and over. I don't always feel like going round and round.

If it looks like spam, I'll open the thread and report it if it is.

If it looks like something funny, I'll open it.

It's it's about me, I'll open it. That doesn't happen often, but it has once or twice. Who wouldn't open a thread someone started about them?

If I started the thread, I'll open it.

Well needless to day, I'm all about helping newbies so I only get involved in any thread that might interest them or a question that they've asked.

Now understand, that doesn't mean I open and read EVERY question that's posted. For one I'm not interested in questions that start out with "How..." or "When..." because that's just a person that isn't trying to succeed. So if he/she doesn't want to waste their time then I don't think I need to waste mine either.

To raise my attention, show me in your title that you've already done to research into your question, or at least some thought into what you're asking.

I wish more people who post would consider what you've just said! I'd tack on a couple of extra thanks to your post if I could.

    hi Marvin,
Will it depends upon your area of interest, programmers are interested in programing thread, internet marketers prefers threads about internet marketing and so the designers.
Personally I read the thread which has attractive title.

If I'm here to share and network I'll simply skim the titles to find things that are interesting or that I think I can help with.

If I'm here because I need help i"ll use the "search" function to find posts related to my question.
