I agree. But the people who registered that domain are the ones already identified by other Warrior Members in this thread. The domain name I liked also got registered automatically and hopefully it will drop in few days. I will wait for 2 weeks. If nothing happens, I will go ahead and search for some other good domain.

It happens every time.

I have experienced such before sometime last year and developed a simple solution.

I usually write out some of the domain names i may want to register on my desk top so what i usually do is to arm myself with my credit card whenever i want to search for the availability.

If any is available, i register it that same minute without wasting time or signing out.

I believe that many people do this as well.

  Chances are it is a temporary registration and if you don't check it again for 10 days or so - it will be available then.
  
  That means you don't keep looking it up day after day - but you wait a while as if a temporary registration was done it will expire in 7-10 days.
  
  It happens a lot but it's totally preventable. When you find the domain you want register it immediately before leaving that site.
  
  Edit: Just noticed the title of the thread. It's not "bad people" - it's a bit underhanded but it's a third party business that's been done for a long time. When you look up a domain and it's available, you have first choice to register it. I know it's frustrating but until you register a domain it's up for grabs. If you are patient now you may still get the domain you want for a standard registration fee.

  This is what you should always strive to do, especially if it's a domain name that you feel is crucial for your business.   I lost this thread and traced it using Google by searching for "based on your inaction" warriorforum as the keyphrase .
  
  I got a very similar domain which expired today. It is actually better than the one I lost in March.

You might have luck and can register the domain in a week or two. Often these domains are registered automatically. If they do not get type-in traffic within 5 days they are dumped and you can register again.

I regularly check domains on GoDaddy and NameCheap and will often come back weeks or even a month later to purchase them. I've never had a problem like this. They have always still been available.

I agree with Will, I always search on GoDaddy and have never had this happen.

It sucks a bit but I guess you either dwell on it or move on and look for another - or as suggested wait a couple of weeks and see if it becomes available again. If that's the name you really want then I hope it does become available for you - good luck!

Usually, I use trusted sites like Yahoo Domain Search, Moniker or GoDaddy. They're pretty much right on the money when it comes to finding a domain that is available. Try your hand at those services. They just may work for you too.

I have always been afraid of someone 'looking over my shoulder' when I do searches and find great domain names.

It may just be coincidence in your case, but you learn the lesson on this one. Search - Find- Buy

The worst was when I registered two domains with Network Solutions and then three days after I'd registered them and started building my new site, I got an Email from them saying that they had decided they didn't want to work with (something from their fraud prevention service, though for the life of me, I've got no idea what the problem was) and they summarily released my domain names for anyone to grab without any explanation.

I raced to re-register them with Go Daddy but boy was I furious. It was lucky that the site wasn't fully up and hadn't been fully publicized yet or I'm sure someone would have stolen them out from under me. Moral of the story: I'll never touch Network Solutions again with a ten foot pole and I've got my domains registered for 10 years with Go Daddy so I don't have to worry about it for a while.

Wouldn't fret too much about it, just a lesson, snag a good domain as soon as you spot one... You have a whole year to get to work on it, even if you aren't planning on doing anything immediately.

Hey boys and girls-thought I'd chime in since I recently found out about a cool tool that's much faster than the other name checkers we've all been using, that a few people mentioned. To give credit where it's due, I learned of it from an E.Brian Rose interview of Mike Cowles talking about monetizing PLR.

Mike told Brian about the tool; Brian thanked him and said he'll be using it from now on-as will I. Here it is: Ajax Whois 2.0 - fast domain name search and whois

There is no benefit for me in sharing; I just think it's a nice time saver-and I don't think it will clue anyone in to what you're looking for-no buttons to push (unless you want to "favorite" a name)-it works kind of like Google instant-checks availability as you type.

It's faster than you'd believe, and you can have it check for multiple extensions simultaneously. I love how you can start with a short name, and just continue typing-checking multiple names times all desired extensions without starting over, almost instantly. To set the extensions you're interested in, you can check them off on the right side of the page under "my preferred extensions".

Happened to me once back in 2009 but at that time I really didn't care about the domain. This time it was pretty serious. Yup, now I search for the domain and register it immediately.

I've seen 2 or 3 people saying they use GoDaddy to avoid this sort of thing, which brings a wry smile to my face, because this is the reason I won't go anywhere near GD. Over a year ago I found a couple of domains and when I returned a liitle later to register them they were no longer available. Sure it could just have been coincidence, but I didn't feel so.

A lot of domain checking tools work by checking with GoDaddy, I never use them now and prefer using NameCheap if checking.
