Newbie needs some guidance on Internet Marketing!

I have been running a couple of sites and I have a couple dozen domains lying idle without any monetization. The couple of sites that I have made up and running have been monetized using clickbank, googleads and amazon.

I get hits on the site (not a lot though) monthly unique hits are between 300-700 (average high low for the couple sites running)

What are the best ways to promote my site and what are the best ways to monetize domains that are lying idle? Any guidance in this regard is highly appreciated.

Just to add to my above query, inspite of the hits and the various monetization methods (there are even hits on my clickbank and amazon links) but zero sales out of them.

What are the basic rules I need to follow while trying to market and monetize a domain / site.

If you mean monetize domains that are lying idle and you dont want to develop them you need to look at a site like sedo.

If you are getting 300-700 monthly visits but no sales on a number of sites then you need to look very carefully at the copy you have on your website.

You also need to define your strategy clearly and be focused on that. Its worth while spending some time evaluating the domains, the competition and the likely traffic.

    I wish you luck.

Hi @justinw thanks for your insights. Basically I want to develop the domains. I have been doing one at a time but I think my strategy is wrong because somehow I am not able to convert the "hits" into "sales"

What are the basics I should look into for trying to capture the hits into sales?
      Thanks

Like Justin mentioned, you should check Sedo re your idle domains.

Besides improving your site, you should also work to increase your traffic by building backlinks to your sites: article marketing, guest posting, commenting (real comments, not spam!), creating videos etc. Tweeting will probably not be enough.

      Cheers,

      Satu

Perhaps you may want to check your site content and ask yourself how is my site of value to my traffic and how is it any different from other sites in my niche. Strive to be of value and not just another option. Once you have that trust and recognition from your traffic, monetizing should be relatively easy. Gluck and all the best

The reason why you haven't earned from those monthly hits was because your traffic is not highly targeted or maybe you dont have a good sales copy. Analyze things once again before spending more time or money on traffic.

I mostly market via Twitter and my pages are also indexed on search engines. Search engine contributes to around 60% of the hits with remaining 20 from twitter and the rest from other forum posts and shared links by others.

What I wanted is say I could get some money per month out of these idle domains (read 2 dozen domains!) if I could generate some income out of them (most are generic dictionary name combinations) then it would help me develop a couple of great products I have in mind.

Any ideas would be highly appreciated.

As I wont and will not have time for developing all sites at present, is anyone aware if there is some kind of domain renting / leasing company that helps us get say monthly or yearly fixed income from the domains we hold? Say I have abcdef.xyz domain and Mr B likes the domain, he could say offer $XX a month and I could get fixed amount per month without bothering about developing my domains.

Any company out there doing such work?

Not sure, but you can try it here on the forum. Lots of people are there, willing to help others. May be if they can help you out. I suggest one more thing, that take time, research the content development of some successful marketers, formulate your copy accordingly on your niche. I think it will help.

Maybe you should follow a course that teaches you how to make the most of your sites. From what I read, you have quite a few sites, but you need to make them earn you money and find an efective way (or ways) to get them noticed.

First of all, if you have traffic but no sales, something is wrong. It can be either of the following things:

      - your copy and/or design need to be redone
      - you are targeting keywords that are not profitable (people doing the searches are not willing to buy)
      - you are promoting the wrong products.

      Take a look at them.

Second, you need to increase the traffic to your sites. If you are not in the top 3 positions of Google, keep working to reach them, basically building backlinks. In addition, add more content targeting additional keywords and try to also rank those pages.

Try going to Microsoft OCI and checking whether your domains have any Online Commercial Intent - this is tied of course to your keywords. If so, then you'll need to do some amount of work to either SEO for search engine or better yet, figure out how to drive people there from Facebook. By leveraging FB it's much easier to have a dialogue around your domains.

By the way do you have adsense on these dormant domains?

We built a number of them around, keyword optimized them of course and then SEO, backlinked and drove FB traffic. The adsense numbers were through the roof until Google changed their algorithms.

Since we are in the business of celebrity marketing, we also leveraged our celebrity brands to drive traffic as well.

Hi mate, provided these are buyer keywords, it would be a good idea to provide Amazon links on your website. This way you will get maximum conversions. Any product the person buys on Amazon within 24 hours will be credited to your account in the form of a commission.
