What would be a reasonable price to pay for exclusive rights to original music for a workout video?

I have done a bit of research, but still haven't come up with a ballpark figure for having someone create music tracks for a workout video. I use Garage Band and have some music experience, but would rather get a 'nice' (as in for old folks like me....) sounding workout track to add to a video.

Right now I'm using midi files to rough out each segment as to length and bpm's and really enjoying some of the selections. However, I don't want to mess with copyright issues with midi files - I just want some nice, timed, segments of 1 - 2 1/2 minutes each with old-fashioned music. Each short selection will need to slightly increase the tempo and beats per minute.

I found some good stuff here: Royalty Free Music, Stock Music, Production Music, plus on some other royalty free sites, but nothing that is suited for what I am trying to do.

I just need to know approximately what the cost would be to get the audio file created, and have exclusive rights to it to use in my video. At this point, I'm not looking to hire anyone - I'm just doing a cost analysis for the whole project.

    As far as my knowledge goes, exclusive rights are a bit more expensive than "shared" rights.

    If you can't find something, then you may create it yourself. I mean if I can work on GarageBand, so can you. You just need to get a bit of hand on it. ;-)

    Another option would be to hire a musician. But beware, that's hell lot expensive.

    Hi Karan: Thanks for your input. I can work on Garage Band a bit, but not well enought to create the professional sound I am looking for. And I know hiring is a musician is expensive, but what I need is a ball-park figure to factor in to my cost analysis.

    Alan: I do like the music on the video. He did a great job. It's not quite 'boppy' enough for what I'm looking for this time around, but I'll bookmark this thread for future reference.

      The other thread was locked and I wanted to add that if you get the DJ music you will also want to download their Juicer software to use with the music. It's free, btw...

    Val, if you choose to go the Musikpitch route. let me know. I can get you a link that will waive the $39 register fee. Plus, you can set your OWN price that you're willing to pay. And, if you're not happy with anything that gets posted, you don't have to pay.

    Disclaimer... I am one of the composers who "compete" over there. I think it's a win/win for both clients and composers. Ron

      Until about a year ago, that's pretty much what I did for a living. My studio is not set up right now or I could help you out, but I do know many composers who do extremely professional work at reasonable rates.
