What format would you like to download most?

Hey all,

I've just finished putting together my new product along with a free video seminar and a video bonus. I've never sold a video product before, and I'm wondering, what format of video is most efficient on size (smallest) while still being universal and easy for the user to download?

Thanks for the input warriors!

I'd say Windows Media .wmv is the most popular format, viewable by the highest proportion of users.

There are a lot of guys who make their videos available to download, but don't zip them up.

Personally, I'd probably zip up the videos as QuickTime files, as it's probably the most widely used on both Macs and PC's.

I'm guessing (though i could be wrong), that more PC owners have QT than Mac owners have Windows Media.

    for fastest download- flash!

for easiest viewing: offer a choice!

Robert Plank recently offered a ipod video download. this is genius .. many people are only too happy tohave a small download and see it on the go as well as decent quality on the computer.

      thanks for the replies guys.

I'm thinking I'm going to have the videos streaming in flv on the site in a player, and the flv available for download as well in case someone wants it otherwise.

I figured I shouldn't really mess with other formats because they seem to produce much larger files but i guess it seems smart to have a quicktime downloadable version too.

Less customer service issues the better, right?

      Thanks again!

Yeah, I was going to suggest FLV. But, many don't recognise it.

You might have to tell users how to view them. Tell Mac users to download Wimpy, etc.

  • I don't think there is any "universal" format. ;( but you should be pretty good with a .mov and a .wmv download
