How many hops should it take for a sale?

I have a new clickbank product and so far I have made one sale. There has been 495 hops and one sale. That is a .2% conversion rate. I know that isn't good. There have been 27 order form impressions, and only two order form submits, but one sale.

I know the product over delivers and for the money they get a ton of information. 460 pages of content in 7 ebooks and 2 hours of MP3's!

You can look at the sales page, would you buy this if you were in the market? Does the sales page do a good job selling you on why you should buy the product? Any suggestions on what to change to get better conversions?

the website is: dog training master class

Any suggestions are welcome!

Another warrior suggested a pop-up, but I have never done that before. Is there a good pop-up form that you can recommend?

This will of course vary WILDLY and depends on many factors, your landing page, sales copy, the actual vendor's product page and much more.

But a TYPICAL conversion rate on CB is 1:80ish. This is commonly seen. Of course, there are products which convert worse, like 1:150...and there are products which convert much better.

Edit: Your site is "pretty good", good design, nice box shots...but too salesy (in my opinion) for the targeted audience. Not EVERY site must look like tabloid with big, bold head lines. You can do better!

And don't let them having to scroll down ALL THE WAY until they can actually buy the product..there is way too much content to scroll down and the "add to cart" button is all the way down at the bottom.

At the start, there is simply too many headlines and the writing is way too spaced out...i could see that for that audience it would be much better to have dog pictures more at the beginning and not below the fold. So i would move the picture with the guy further up.

I don't know anything about how to change the code. I had a copywriter design and write the entire sales page. Sounds like I need to find someone interested in shifting things around on my sales page. Would you be interested or know who would be?

I hope you didn't pay that copywriter much -- there are so many poor copywriting elements I don't know where to start.

Probably the headline, which doesn't really offer a CLEAR and IMMEDIATE benefit for reading the rest of the page.

The first book presented is about health -- not the most important thing in this niche. The 2nd book would be a better lead-in choice.

The 2 bonus books should be part of the main offer, and a couple of the "main" books would probably do better as bonuses. (Although, strictly speaking, this needs to be determined by testing.)

When you release a new product, you'll need to spend time testing various options for packaging, pricing, and traffic generation to find a combination that works.

With only 495 hops, you're just getting started.

If the copywriter is worth anything, they will help you rework the sales page until it converts at a decent level.

Hops to sale ratio really depends on the kind of traffic. As they say, there're warm traffic and there're cold traffic.

Warm traffic are mostly those coming from sites that have 'reviewed' your product and given a positive recommendation. Cold traffic have not been pre-sold.

Think it's quite hard to really say how many hops to make a sale but i always assume a worst case scenario of 1%.

Get rid of that header with the freaky Godzilla beagles towering over the house. No idea what the hell is going on there, but it's not the cuddly, lovey-dovey, happiness-inducing sort of image that dog lovers eat up.

Which is a pity, because there are TONS of that kind of picture throughout the letter.

So scrap the header, lead with your headline, and get a picture of a happy looking person with their much-beloved animal companion up above the fold, where people will immediately associate your product with doggy bliss.

That'd be a good start. Then, re-write the headline. Nobody is lying awake at night, lamenting, "Oh God...If only I *understood* my dog better!" They want a happy, healthy, well-behaved dog.

Yeah..typical "sales letter" stuff..but in that case i think its out of place.
Please people, if you make sites try to think like a customers
What do they expect? What might motivate them etc..etc...

The site gets actually good towards the middle/end...it just needs some re-arranging and being a little "friendlier", talking to the audience not SHOUTING in bold headlines

Adam i would GLADLY do this, but i see its a static site and not wordpress ;( In other words...every change now needs manually fiddling with the HTML...and it can be a ***ch, to be honest.

Would you be interested to convert that whole site to wordpress?

I use NVU - it's free, with one or two glitches, but you can work with wysiwyg, tags and html in different views - that's how I started to learn html. Give it shot. n v u dot c o m

I would much rather have this as a wordpress blog style, but don't know how to do all of that. It was built as a static site from the designer, so I have no idea how all of that gets worked into a wordpress site. I own the thesis theme and if i could have it set up in that then i can edit it much easier as I have very very little knowledge in html. I'm not saying I have more in wordpress, but the wysiwyg editor helps tremendously!

Actually the changes I made I did on a test domain that I wasn't using so I didn't mess up anything and when I got it up the way it is now, I just ftp'd it to the right domain.

Its a little better but there is still a huge chunk without images after that first one. The images are really good, so i would put them, some left, some right...wrap text around them etc.

I usually get around 4-5 sales per 100 hops on one of my weakest products. The main thing IMHO is the sales copy and the traffic that you target.

I've paid upwards of $2000 for a short sales copy but that took my conversion rates to an all time high and I made the money back within a few days.

For traffic I would target highly motivated buyers that need an instant solution

    one thing...

I see there is a link "click here to download..." but then goes to the purchase page at clickbank.

So..i can see this being a reason that many hops are generated without people buying since they thinks its a free download too.

    Question: who wrote the thing?

The Master’s Class represents HUGE volumes of data sorted, written and edited by dog behavior specialists.
I spent years researching, attending obedience classes and even hired a “professional” dog trainer to help overcome the obstacles I was facing...I’ve constructed 5 complete ebooks, each packed with the most current and important information for keeping a happy and healthy dog.
Was it some guy who wanted to learn how to make his dog happier, healthier, and more well-behaved, or was it professional dog trainers?

Just wondering for possible headliney reasons. 'Cuz the new headline still bites. Again: people want happy, healthy, well-behaved dogs. They didn't want a mind-meld with Fido. And I'm pretty sure they don't want a college degree in dog training. (Read: "This will be hard, expensive, and take a long time.")

For the ebook writing, the five ebooks were written by different industry experts I found and paid to write a custom ebook. I took their writings and made them into an ebook for each.

The sales copy was written by a fellow warrior and I have expressed my concerns with the horrible conversions with her hoping for her to fix it.

With that being said, I am going to convert this into xsitepro so I can edit things and make them better taking everyones advice ino consideration.

    So far its:

    1) get rid of the green
    2) move the pictures up and in different spots
    3) change all the headlines so they are more geared towards the customers wants and needs, not yelling at them
    4) Change the purchase links to be more like buy now buttons
    5) Get away from the "Understand your dog stuff" as that is not what customers want
    6) take out some of the spacing
    7) make this more like a solution then a sales page, less "salesy"

Any other suggestions? Anything that should stay the way it is?

I just checked out your site again and felt that you should
capitalize the T in Training. Important aspect as it felt
a tad unprofessional to me. Either capitalize it or add a
dash in between house and training.

I think i would consider a slightly different format instead of a typical CB sales letter. Offer the reader a reason to actually read the letter and make it easily clear as soon as they enter the page that they may just find exactly what they are looking for (or at least a piece of it).

I'm not a fan of the green background mixed with red subheadings.

The other thing I would do is simply start paying REALLY close attention to your analytics and start AB testing everything you can think of.

Ok, I have converted this into xsitepro, since I don't know HTML and I couldn't get it t work in wordpress.

    1) The green is gone.
    2) The pictures are moved up
    3) The buy buttons are more frequent and say "Click here to purchase", not "click to download" so its not misleading.
    4) Next up to change is the copy...

That looks ALOT more inviting, although being a dog owner myself I still don't get the lovey dovey feeling from your site that I have for dogs. I think the mushier the better for your type of site, but it looks alot better, congrats!

The copywriter, is a member of the Warrior Forum. That's how I found her, said she would have to charge me to make changes to get it to convert better. That's why I am asking other warriors for advice so I can do it myself. I don't want to pay someone else to rewrite it. I was burnt by the original and all it got me was out $250. My fear is spending money on someone else and if we get the same results, I just lost even more money.

To change the ebooks around, meaning to put the two bonuses into the "class" and remove two and make them bonuses, I would have to change the graphics. Again, I paid for the graphics so I don't really want to mess with that.

I think I have two strong bonuses and I think I will put them up in the mix of the other ebooks. Kind of like an early incentive. Maybe after the second ebook say something like, "if you join the class today you will get this bonus". Then show the first bonus, then after that go back to the third book and so on. After the forth ebook, do another round for the second bonus. It would also split up the diet and health ebooks in the class. What do you think about that?

I did move the first ebook to the end and moved the rest up, since they are stronger ebooks.

I am thinking of writing the sales page as a classroom type of theme. I mean the domain and product is Dog Training Master Class, so why wouldn't you play around with that theme? I would have thought the sales letter writer would have done that, but it was a "here ya go bye" type of deal.

I'm reading a book on copywriting now, because this is something I haven't done in the past. I usually pay to have articles written. But, I want to learn to be more efficient in my writing so I don't have to pay others to do it for me.

I understand your frustration. I've been there.

$250 is pretty cheap, so that seems to be right in line with what you've got. Most "professional" copywriters will start at $1000 and go up from there.

I posted a free report here last week, and it includes some information on copywriting. A link to it is in my sig below.

      Good luck.
