Great article! Thanks for referring it. And yes Twitter can definitely boost traffic... I just started using it about 2 weeks ago and I'm generating followers without even trying. Now I realize the sheer Power of this thing.

If you succeed to make a lot of followers Twitter would act as your e-mail list. And as you know - "Money is in the list!" ;-).

It's great for non-converting social referral traffic and schmooze marketing.

Oh my God does Twitter drive traffic. Tell you what, I'll post a snapshot of my traffic stats later today - I have to get kids ready for school - but I've driven as much as a couple of hundred visitors to my site with one Tweet, and I'd say every week I get a new client from Twitter.

As for not converting - it has to be done right. People like Willie Crawford are on there all the time promoting their stuff and I am sure they would give up and move on if it didn't work. But if you're too spammy and annoying, then it won't convert.

How could I post a snapshot on here? I took a pic but can't figure it out.

Basically Twitter drove 749 visitors to my brand new site in the last 30 days, and this is with me being fairly lazy about promoting it. And remember these are super targeted visitors who came because I posted a tweet like "Here's 10 ways to drive holiday sales using press releases" and then linked to a blog post on my site.

And Dana did it right. A lot of people will just throw up links to their affiliate programs right into twitter.... that's spammy. Send people to an article or video that gives them real value and from there they will find their way to your site.

Twitter does drive traffic and it can convert.

You can have instant sales if you already have a relationship or you can convert to a mail list by driving traffic to your blog etc... and build the relationship over a longer period.

Why thank you. I keep wanting to say something about the Montagues, but that would be just childish.

Twitter traffic converts if you take the time to build a relationship and let people get to know you and your expertise...or if you're Willie Crawford or John Reese or Joel Comm or Frank Kern. That helps too. In other words, people ALREADY know them by reputation, so they don't have to work very hard to sell.

Twitter is an excellent tool for building your online personal, professional, business or startup brand - at least we think so, which is why I and my coauthor have written The Twitter Survival Guide. Details at multisocialmedia.com

It most certainly converts. I have seen conversions as high as 19% For some things.

Additionally as far as driving Traffic...all I have to say is a BIG YES. Dana has already provided good info. Twitter is Powerful if done used right. And another key...is to ask pointed questions. You will be amazed at how much research you can gain from it.

"For some things" is the key phrase here.

If you've spent a lot of time building an audience or already have a recognized 'name' in the right super hip cool in-crowd Internet circles then, yes, you'll get conversions. It's what I call 'schmooze marketing'. It's essentially the same type of social referral conversions you get from having a big time A-List blog. Unfortunately, this pattern won't work for most people.

If you're trying to use Twitter to generate traffic to your knitting niche web site or to your niche Adsense site about Arizona divorce attorneys you'll be very disappointed in the results.

I have found that on twitter, you can make contact with people that you would have a very hard time "cold calling" or PMing.

When someone you want to strike up a relationship with asks for help in a tweet, be as helpful as possible- this leads to friendships and contacts you wouldn't believe.
