Strange clickbank hop link problem - I'd need quick help...

Hi,

I'd need quick help regarding my hop link in clickbank; I already contacted them but noticed that it may take 2 days before they reply.... Ok so I was just building a campaign for this one product, logged into my account, found that product and went to create a hop link for it. Well - when I tested it, I noticed that although the page has my nickname in the url, then when you click on the order button , the affiliate mentioned there is a completely other nick name (and not mine). This happens each time when trying to create a link to this in the click bank account. There is this same other nickname there each time. So someone else would get all the credits for that page and from my efforts.

Ok, so then I chose another product just to see what happens and did the same thing; well allthough my nickname was in the url, in the order page there was this time simply [affiliate = none]

What's going on.....? I don't get this... Is someone messing with my account.. Can somebody please help me?

Thanks so much in advance!

If you have visited that product page previosly by clicking on the site from someone else's add or even just visited the site, a cookie was placed upon your computer giving the credit elsewhere.

Clear your cookies out and try again. Otherwise, if you post the link here, I will test it and see what the results are for you.

There seems to be at least one "odd" product on clickbank which overwrites affiliate cookies, ACCORDING to user reports/rumors. Its a high gravity product with about 600ish gravity. I dont know which one, but that's what i heard.

Otherwise, make sure you are really using the original vendor page as you get from clickbank...and not some 3rd party site which is already an affiliate site. I assume you get your afflinks from a good source like clickbank marketplace or cbengine?

Thanks for the reply - I tried and cleared the cookies (I use mozilla) I cleared them for one day.... Is that enough - I mean should I clear them completely?

      Anyways it didn't help.

      I just checked out for some info on this issue from clickbank and noticed that my hop link that is generated there is in this wrong form;
      samplesite. com / ? hop = nickname

I understood that the sales cannot be tracked down if it's in this form..

For both of these examples I was logged in my cb account, went to market place, then clicked on the "promote" , then created my affiliate link. In that "create" form, my nick name was successfully.

But for some reason it gives this not proper url - with all of the products I've now tested. So I get this wrong type url each time when trying to create the hop link in my cb account. Why I wonder....?

Should I create a new clickbank account ..?

By the way I couldnt post any urls to let you see what I mean (my post count is too low)...

cant you just post vendor name..

    eg YOURID .vendor.hop.clickbank.net

then i can check for myself

i ALWAYS use the normal clickbank links like myid .vendor.hop.clickbank.net, never the other form.

Also possible: You use an antivirus which blocks cookies/clickbank..or some very high security setting in your browser which prevents cookies to be set?

the other thing you can do is tell us your site address like this:

www dot mysite dot com and we can just take a look from your page.

It could be that you are the victim of link hi-jacking.

Spyware sits on your computer that looks for Clickbank links and either re-writes or re-directs the link or drops their cookie.

I did up a post on this a few months ago. How to Cloak Your Affiliate Links (and why you should)

The post contains free code that you can use to cloak your link with instructions.

Ok I just seem not to be able to post these urls (the clickbank hop links I mean) although I tried with some tricks....

My site is under work for the product I chose and no affiliate links there yet, but yes, I will cloak the links. It's just going to be a small site that will hopefully rank well in search engines with certain keywords. And I use word press. The problem is just that how would I cloak the links if they're not even working properly.....

      So when I go to market place and create the hop link it first gives this link with loads of numbers and letters, and then when I copy and paste it to my browser, it changes into this;
      samplesite. com / ? hop = nickname

Isn't that link the one that clickbank says they canot track. Still it gives me this each time I try to create the hop link there...

I start to think that this might be the cookie issue - and yes I've visited each of these sites directly from the market place before creating my link, so that probably is the issue that there are some cookies. Too bad that I've got no idea how fix any settings like in my antivirus program but I do know that that particular program sometimes causes problems (not for me it has caused much of issues ever but I've heard)

Should I clear all the cookies completely (and not just for one day)?
Will I loose some data etc if I clear them completely..?

If there's some hi-jacking going on - how could I fix this....? I dont know anythin about this kind of stuff..........

Thanks for all of your help so far!

If you delete all cookies, you can lose some stuff. It just depends upon what you do online, and how the sites you use regularly utilize cookies. Here is what a hoplink should look like:

Watch online TV on Your PC with SatelliteDirect - Over 3,500 HD Channels Available 24/7

Once that is clicked on, in the browser, it will look like this:

Watch online TV on Your PC with SatelliteDirect - Over 3,500 HD Channels Available 24/7

If that is not what is appearing in your browser, then you have a cookie issue but the link itself should work just fine for your readers.

EDIT: I did not know it was going to enter the code on the screen as a text link. If you hover over the link and look at the bottom left corner of your browser, you will see the actual link data. I hope this helps.

BTW, I am not promoting that product. I just picked the first product that pooped up in the marketplace to make this example.

fscobie has a good idea here. You should be cloaking your affiliate links anyway because it looks more professional. If you are using wordpress, I highly suggest you get the free plugin called "go codes". I use it on my sites and love it.

I change the "go" to "recommends" and it looks really professional. The plug-in also allows you to see click data for your codes so you can track where on your site you are getting the best clicks from.

Had a similar problem when I first started with clickbank and then found it was my own 'duh moment and I'd miss-spelled my own clickbank ID when I added links manually.

    Kiara,
Sounds like you've got this problem pretty much resolved...at least for now.

Two things you may want to check out though.

First, make sure to visit your hoplink from more than one browser (IE, Chrome, FF, Safari, Opera) to make sure that it is working (especially any cloaking you setup) in the most common browsers.

It does sound like a cookie issue...maybe the cookie isn't being set properly?? Have you checked your security settings in FF to make sure you aren't blocking cookies for some reason?

Also, some antivirus programs (Norton sometimes does this) will clear cookies on your own machine. But you should receive a notice when they do this. (Popup sometimes in the toolbar.)

One more tip/trick. You can get the Live Headers Add On for Firefox which will allow you to actually see the headers as you click a link.

If anything "funny" is going on, you can almost always spot it that way and figure out exactly where it is happening with just a little digging.

    Hope this helps!

    All the best,
    Jack Duncan
