Selling Physical Products Online- Why It's Never Been Better Than Right Now

Midway into March I've seen overall Amazon sales quite high....It actually feels like Christmas time. But it's not some abnormal seasonality...You have 2 major factors that are growing in importance, at least in the American economy, that translates to BIG opportunity for you and me.

1) Rising Gas Prices - People are actually curtailing various habits to save money on driving....and that including spending time at the malls and stores. As gas prices increases, overall online purchases will continue to grow

2) Flat Wage Growth - Now more than ever, it's about getting the best bang for the buck. More and more consumers arm themselves with price comparison tools and apps to stretch their dollars as far as possible. Since thery're not going to be getting their regular raise, they see a big incentive in saving 10% or more by going online....which to them is like a huge raise!

Keep in mind that both of these trends will be around for quite some time!

Now, I didn't mean to sound like an economics lecturer but the point is that whether it is Amazon, Commission Junction or any other program where you can sell physical products, you need to strongly consider adding selling physical products to your online game plan.....and if you are selling physical products currently, scale up!

    2 awesome points!

I am sure the gas price pandemonium is quite the reoccurring seller. Ha.

Plus...A lot of uncertainty in the global environment does filter through here in the investment markets as well as consumer confidence. People are going to be tight with their money so they will look online for deals!

Gas prices will continue to rise due to the chaos in Middle East.

TRUE just yesterday I went to buy hair gell and it was like $17.00 for a small tube, I immediately said to myself surely I can get this cheaper so I put it back, went home and bought 300% more for $18 bucks online with free shipping!

Plus I make a lot of money and even I'm becoming cost conscious. If you want a deal you go online and find one.

I know both of these are big factors in Australia too and will continue to be for quite some time I would imagine.

Not only gas, but everything is going up in price - the only thing that doesn't go up are the wages!

I think with technology developing more and more all the time too that more and more people are shopping online.

A large fraction of my affiliate marketing income is actually from physical products The commissions are pretty good on my network, and I find them a lot easier and more enjoyable to sell. A lot of people out there still won't touch digital products, although I do sell those as well.

    Great post

I see a couple of weeks ago there was a big stink in Australia...because the big retail chains...were losing margin to the online retailers....

Gas in Auckland NZ is now $2.16 per litre....a trend that will be around for a while alright...

I think there is great demand for physical products...especially when it is cheaper online...An industry that will surely grow

    Mark.

Those are great points you raised Michael and I'd like to add that the fact that people are becoming more and more comfortable purchasing online and just using the internet in general is another reason why we are expecting a boom in online spending. Older people are now joining facebook like crazy and also starting to purchase their goods online where before they would not even think about buying online.

The internet is still in it's infancy and we are setting ourselves up for a great future with the internet boom.

Amazon.com sells about $3.9Billion on their site each year and they predict a 28% yearly growth. Think about that for a second. The market for physical products is just HUGE and over 1000 times bigger than the digital market.

      Cheers

        Hi Jan,

It's amazing how far we've come.....Years ago, Amazon was a company heavily in the RED and selling a small fraction of what it does today.

What I also love is that with such high growth, you constantly see more and more products being introduced at Amazon every day! So it also means new product categories and products to dive into and promote!

You brought up a great point about the older demographic which is becoming more and more significant to overall online purchases. The older generation is helping to fuel this growth as they become more comfortable and adept with online activity....including buying online!

        These are exciting times!

You can also create a niche site that provides a service to those product creators

Nice. Price comparison tools/sites are also making some good money and if you want to try to compete with the big guys you could try or you could do a smaller niche...
