Netbooks are usually designed for travelling or carrying more so are lighter laptops and usually have smaller screens with anything upto 11 inches. They usually don't have as many bells and whistles in order to fit everything in. EEE 701 is a netbook as is samsung nc10. Netbooks are usually built around browsing and email.

I purchased a Dell Inspiron for my nephew for $432 with free shipping. The free shipping is important because my sister and her family live in a very rural setting.

Just go to Dell.com. You'll need to order through the small business channel to get the discount & free shipping.

To add to what sevenish says -- Dell also has a "Vostro" line of notebooks (in the small business section of their website) that tend to have low starting prices. The other good thing is that these Vostros are stripped down -- in other words, they don't come with a millions of preloaded software, trial software and stuff you probably won't use.

I bought one of the HP computers it's fine except it has Vista.

microcenter.com has stores around the US and also does mail-order. They have some Acer computers at $349 and $399. One of my friends bought one and all is well.

I've had good luck buying from Tiger Direct over the years. The only hitch is that they get in limited stocks of both new and refurb units so the best deals go fast.

If you haven't at least looked at Ecost.com then do. their prices are always competitive and often much better than tigerdirect. I've mae many purchases through Ecost.com and never had a problem.

I second eCost. I have made numerous purchases there and have always found great deals. Just got my wife an 8gb usb drive for free.

I would only add to pay close attention to what you are buying if you are refurb-phobic as they carry a significant amount of refurbs.
