Can't install wordpress

When I go through the process on Fantastico, I enter my details and then get this message..

"You cannot install more than one script in the root directory of a domain."

How do I delete the script I apparantly installed?

You should need to remove that scripts manually .

Go to your file manager using your cpanel , Access the directory where you want to install that scripts and delete or move that other script files . Then install your wordpress again from fantastico.

    make backup before deleting anything.

or install wordpress in your subdirectory and then redirect your domain to that directory using domain redirection in cpanel

    hope it helps

      Don't do this.

You will need to manually delete the files in the root folder of your domain. If you use FTP then you can simply go into your domain folder and delete the files in that folder. Alternatively you can navigate to the root folder of your domain using the 'File Manager' option in your cPanel and delete the files you find in that folder.

If you don't think you have installed anything yourself then it sounds to me like the Wordpress has already been installed and you are trying to install it again. What shows up when you type your domain name into a web browser?

          Hi

Yes I totally agree you need to install wordpress manually...better for security reasons too!

This webpage shows you how to add wordpress using CPanel...other ways are possible but i think this is the easiest way...

          Using cPanel « WordPress Codex

          Good luck

          Warm regards

I'm no techie, but I had exactly this problem last week. I had previously installed a .php script, but then removed it. It MAY have left a bug, but I ended up having to contact Hostgator's live/online chat and they had to remove it for me.

At first However, they didn't resolve the issue, and I had to go to them again. Apparently it was all down to a problem that can only be rectified by HGator. They did something called "fantfix" and that cured it.

I can only assume it WAS the previous .php script, as I have installed/uninstalled/reinstalled WP several times on the same root domains (TLDs) with no problem (this was the only time I hadn't installed using ftp, and from the main folder from within an unzipped folder); I simply apply a different user/pword each time. Sometimes I like to see how my sites look using both my web editor and WP, and find the ability to transfer between them (more than once) useful.

I don't know how a manual install would affect any potential updates/upgrades (?)

If you already have WP installed in your root, why would you want to delete it just to install it again? Why not just use the one that is already installed?

The only problem is that you have files in the root folder for a reason. DO NOT delete those files unless you are trying to delete the WordPress website that you currently have up with your host.

If you are trying to use an "Add-on Domain", then you will need to go into your cPanel and set up the domain which you are adding onto your hosting plan. Thereafter, you will point your WordPress upload to your add on domain. The path should look something like this:

    public_html/addondomain

"public_html" is your root folder. Within it, you will see a folder with the name of your "add-on domain". This will be the folder to which you will upload WordPress.

Hopefully this helps. Feel free to PM me with any questions.

Why not install WordPress manually? You just need to create a database and upload the files to your directory. The rest is just using the Web interface. It will give you better control over your WordPress site.

If you can't delete the file in root directory, change the folders and files permission to 777 so that you can clean them up...
