Do you have $1 products or $1 trials? If so beware...

In the last few weeks my credit card company has put an automatic block on my CC twice because of 2 seperate $1 charges.

They were legit purchases I made, each one for $1 purchases. I guess credit card companies are now saying that could be a test purchase for theives who will then make big purchases.

Funny a few years ago someone got one of my cc numbers and quickly there were purchases for over a thousand dollars in many countries but my card wasn't automatically blocked then.

So just be aware that by offering $1 products or $1 trials could get your customers credit card blocked.

I've had this too, but I do believe there were other factors involved apart from the amount itself. My bank did tell me that small charges raise a flag in their system, but they also seemed to think certain payment processors raised a flag too for some reason. I've had other one dollar trials go through absolutely fine.

Yes, I've also experienced this. $1 payments trigger alarms with some banks and c/card companies and this can have a detrimental effect on how your customer trusts you if it happens to them. It's well known that fraudsters use tiny amounts to establish connection and if this goes through, continue to rip-off the victim of large amounts of dosh. That said, I've also known people who have run campaigns like this without any problem - like the lady said, it could be down to what processor is being used. Just be cautious.

The CC company that blocked my card for the $1 purchase didn't used to do that. So it's probably becoming more common by cc companies. Many companies including Paypal use small charges to verify your accounts, Are they still doing that?
