What's your technique for finding a niche?

Just wondering what peoples techniques are for finding niches, few questions.

Does profit come before passion? when it comes to, say a blog, if so, do you find it hard to blog about something you have no interest in?

Do you only go for an exact keyword .com/.net/.org?

What's the minimum exact monthly searches you need?

Or maybe you don't get most of your traffic with search engines?

What's your most profitable niche? Just the area it's in, of course. Roughly, what's the exact monthly searches, and do you rank on page 1 of google?

Do you blog about IM?

And finally, if you are successful, what's your one best piece of advice.

Thanks for reading.

That, and/or digging through departments on amazon and just doing keyword research on different titles.

I usually look for at least 1000 phrase match searches a month. Then just search the keyphrase in google, and spy on backlinks to see if you can outrank anyone in the top five.

That's pretty much what I do...

Also, I'll only go for the exact .com match, as I believe it's easier to rank in google with this.

Managed to find a best selling product with over 3000 searches a month this way, it's a serial number, so no trademark issue.

I'm wondering if this is normaly how it's done.

Passion should come before profit at the earlier stage but when you begin to really master the games, you can go for profits even when you don't have any personal interests in the niche.

This is quite easy but not to the average newbie out there so explaining it this way is much better so that some people will not start feeling misled.

Marketing to a niche doesn't necessarily mean you are going to write a blog. The site could be an informational site to profit from Adsense. It could be an affiliate "store" meant to send visitors to a merchant. It could be a squeeze page to build a list. There are so many options out there, so yeah, I can definitely go after profits even though I'm not particularly interested in the niche.

I try to grab EMD's when I can, especially for a site where I'm going to bank on a majority of my traffic coming from Google.

For my adsense sites its usually more than 3000 [Exact] global searches. For other niches the focus may not even be using search engines to drive traffic, thus I don't even look at the GKT.

Forums are badass when it comes to traffic. I built one of my first lists solely from forum marketing and today its still one of my most profitable lists.

I do not have a site dedicated to internet marketing, but I do feel I provide a lot of value on forums like this one. If I can at least help point a beginner (or even an experienced marketer) towards success then I feel like I've accomplished something.

Don't over think things. Sometimes you just have to take the plunge and fight for success. For my first site I thought I had a killer easy keyword. Boy was I wrong. But I learned so much from getting that site from making nothing to being able to pay my car payment.

It's easy to get stuck in "market research" mode and honestly you will never make a single dime online if you continue looking for that "holy grail" niche that is going to answer all your problems.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

  • I just go for a niche that is both profitable and which I am passionate about.

Yes! I hate writing about insurance, loans, mortgage and i dont have "fun" with such sites even if AdSense payouts are great.

No. And i hope Google gets rid of this Nonsense soon.

Monthly? 9000 monthly BARE minimum, translating to 200ish SEOT (or 300 searches daily) BARE MINIMUM. Everything else is a waste.

    Remedies.
But basically everything which provides a solution for problems people have, so its not limited to only health.
    And yes, and yes.
But not enough search volume for becoming a millionaire due to being a micro niche. See above. 250 hits daily wont cut it! There is only "so many" people looking for (examples) "acne scars treatment" or "psoriasis remedy" or "how to get rid of bed bugs". Its ridiculous low compared to niches like weight loss etc.

Unless you have a bunch of such micro niche sites, each site will maybe make you one or two sales/day, even at #1 in Google.

    yes

    focus, consistency, patience

    * 1000s of methods exists how you can make money, means you are probably doing 1000 of them wrong or halfa$$ed.

Focus on ONE thing, clear your head and forget the 999 others until you master ONE method.

    * IM and Success is no secret, its all solid, proven and "old" methods which usually require WORK.
