What do you think of video sharing sites?

A person holding a webinar two weeks ago claimed to be making lots of money from his video sharing site(s). The concept is pretty simple: put up a site and embed popular and trending youtube videos into your posts. Include lots of social media and sharing capabilities and email blast links to your list of friends. Monetize with AdSense and affiliate links.

He went on to pitch his product, which provided the technical and hosting aspects. You just simply add content and drive traffic.

Being a web developer for 17 years, I decided I'd save myself the money and build it myself. So I did. The problem is that I don't have a list to speak of. I do have 400 facebook friends and I have posted several links. Traffic is still weak.

I guess the question is whether or not to invest any more time in this. There is no list building aspect and not really any defined niche here. It's just a site with funny videos that hopes to grab CPC clicks.

My Adsense stats are showing that I'm averaging $2.50 per thousand page views. This site will need a LOT of traffic to make any significant money at that rate.

Is this webinar guy for real? Any advice?

This is problem #1. Humor sites are notoriously difficult to monetize. As you are discovering, you need boatloads of traffic to make money with them. I'm sure there are exceptions but in my experience, humor sites suck.

$2.50 per 1000 views is abysmal for AdSense.

The fundamental problem is that people looking for funny videos are not usually looking for something to buy.

On the bright side, you have some traffic so that is good. I might try selling Amazon stuff... funny DVDs, books, stuff like that.

Honestly, I would abandon the idea of directly profiting from this site but I'd keep it for the traffic and link to all of my other stuff.

^^ No better words would be said...he is right Adsense is good for cheap change but it is definitely not where your money should be invested in.

So I'm clear...you're recommending pulling back on the Adsense spots and replacing with something that pays more?

I do have one clickbank aff link there now. Maybe I should add more and give them the premium space?

I think you are going to have a hard time making money no matter what you try. Leave me a PM with a link if you want and I can take a look.

The site won't let me send you one until I have 50 posts. Maybe you can send me a PM and I can reply to yours. Thanks

I added the link to my signature temporarily. Let's see if it works.

I think if hes got 1000 views going to his site someone is bound to click on a clickbank product and if he even makes one $20 sale per 1000 views thats quite a bit more than $2.50
