How to get web traffic with Wikipedia?

Hi all,

I was just wondering that Wikipedia.org could be a great traffic source.
Any suggestions? Any thoughts? Leave a reply!
Thanks in advance.

Have a nice day.

    Good luck with that.

But to pull it off, you will need someone on the inside.

I think it can get you traffic, if you insert a proper, highly related link to one of your pages.
(Szerintem tud, ha egy normális linket írsz a "referral links" helyre.)

It can if you have an authority site. Not if you have a sniper site or anything like that.

If you do have an authority site, try to find articles on Wikipeida that are related to your site topic and add a relevant link to your site in the "External Links" section.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. Moderation will check your link and they will only let relevant links to appear.

Pretty hard. You might be lucky to get your article in it and get a backlink. Might want to consider alternatives.

I used to be a contributor to wikipedia and I can tell you: all the editors/moderators can smell any self-promotional link from miles... and they delete them mercilessly even from the External Links section.

Someone, not me or anyone under my control, added a link to one of my pages from two different wikipedia pages.

Both are PR7 pages, and both are high-traffic pages, and my page is listed as an recommended link.

And yet I barely get 15 visitors a month from the wikipedia.

So even if someone could get in, it is doubtful in my mind that it will generate a lot of traffic.

Yes, that's the other thing: if the links are on a wiki-page that is rarely visited/searched... not much traffic from there.

You would have to be very subtle.

If you had a true authority site in your niche which was highly respected, and you wrote a non-salesy article based on genuine research, you could use it as a source.

You would get people to your site that way, but you shouldn't be selling them anything on the page because it's a wiki source not a sales page.

But if you can get a site to that level of authority I think you wouldn't be concerned with wikipedia marketing at all anyway.

It will just index your links but these links will not help you in Page Rank. Which is clearly written in their rules.

Once you have some great unique content and decent traffic then you can create wikipedia,But it is difficult for new sites.

I have many links pointing to my sites from Wikipedia. On a certain site, Wikipedia is responsible for 3.13% of my traffic.

Is it worth it? Well, not so much but you can do it for a bit of extra traffic. Write a decent article on your site. Add something valuable to the Wikipedia page and link as resource.

I haven't had anyone remove my links. They're still intact to this day.
