Creating a website like askmen.. is wordpress robust enough?

I'm in the planning phases to consider a build out a niche that focuses on lifestyles for men.
Think the askmen website.

Is wordpress robust enough to set up this type of site? Not that I'm going to, but could I make it look like Askmen or not a blog?

Any recommendations for templates or design?

Last question... If I drive traffic via paid google search.. can I go direct to a slide or pause page that says push to resume with an ad/offering centered on it? I don't want a popup. I'm curious to know how this would translate in google TOS. Does it change anything if I put these as a step between each page of an article?

Thanks!

I don't see why you couldn't use Wordpress to accomplish something like this. You could also use other Content Management Systems such as Drupal or Joomla. I looked around and couldn't find a template exactly like Askmen.com, but you could hire someone through an outsourcing website such as elance, rentacoder, odesk, getafreelancer, etc.

      Thanks, I had considered outsourcing.

I used to sling java/html to build sites like aa.com etc... but,

I want quick easy and scalable. I had thought about launching with a simple theme while one was being developed.

Any thoughts on the Google TOS for adsense forwarding to the continue pages with adverts? or to pages that then forward to that. Hoping those aren't considered pop-ups.

Yes. You could make an exact clone of askmen with wordpress if you wanted. Now, it's going to take an above average developer to make it happen but it can be done.

Can be done.. but, should it be done?

I'm from the old days where you had to kill yourself to produce a website and then prayed people showed up. I really want to use wordpress, etc..

The answer really depends on how big the site is going to be (how many posts, categories, Pages etc.); how many visitors etc.

There are very big WP websites with lots of traffic - however they are not your usual shared hosting package and everything is optimized by pros on those servers: the database connections/speed, the caching etc.

Oh yeah... I can't project that type of traffic. I just hope WP would either scale through the growing pains or be easy to migrate.

I believe wordpress would be capable of doing this, although I would definately invest in a tech person to upkeep security and maintain the backend stuff.

I've heard frameworks are also good for security (such as Thesis or Genesis). I use Genesis myself and it's also very good for SEO and even point/click design controls (Prose child theme). Since it's a "framework", I'd imagine the security would be tight as they are reputeable companies with great support.

Yes, you can use Wordpress to build a site like that. But if I were you, I'll hire a high tech guy to build the theme for me so that it'll be completely unique and new to my targeted market. You can find great freelancers via freelancer.com and elance.com. You can also drive traffic via video marketing to your new site.
