How? Market 'Illegal Guns'?

Hello.

My company owns various domain TLDs for 'Illegal Guns' (.net et al.).

I want to put them to good use e.g. for gun prevention or organizations that support gun control.

I am looking for ideas on ways to get started in marketing them and/or the approach; what content to add if I should develop it first; should I develop and keep and add advertising; etc.

I figured the name is controversial enough to attract attention.

Thoughts?

If you wanted to monetize it you could set up some kind of form collecting their details (remember criminals are dumb) and sell those leads to bounty hunters, or collect the FBI reward

Or maybe thats how the A-Team get their guns and you could become an affiliate for them? That'd be cool

To be serious though while I applaud the sentiment I think you're kind of drawing a long bow in thinking there's much you can do to change the mindset of somebody who is genuinely seeking illegal guns. Perhaps display the phone number of a mental health or criminal assistance organization. Or ask a gun control organization for ideas.

Finding a host for a illegalguns URL could be tricky.

OMG Lianm that is too funny (selling leads to bounty hunters LOL)

I guess my question would be what is the money connection? What are you ultimately trying to do because you can either go non profit (DARE I say that here LOL) or gun collection niche

How about placing targeted ads on other gun forums that discuss these type of weapons via the Google Display Network?

Gun control? Government intervention to curb a constitutional right?

First I wont even comment how screwed up that is. Second what are you going to do when arfcom or 4chan knock you off the net?

Now if you really wanted to make money from it you would market gun safety devices i.e. body armor, gun safes, trigger locks and work to make the industry safer, not try to inflict your minority opinion on the general population which will cause you to draw the ire and onslaught of a community that you are il-equipped to fight.

          I completely agree.

LOL It would really be funny if there were signups from those who used their real contact info. That would be worth quite a bit of money on a lot of fronts!

I'm not looking to change minds on the illegal guns issue. I'm looking to benefit from the sale or use of this domain name, that's all.

As far as hosting is concerned, I did set up a page for the '.net' version.

There are a number of mayors who get frustrated with the crime in their city who could use it to bring more attention to the problem.

Another avenue could be to show content like the following - adults gone STUPID...?

            • One of the latest incidences of adult stupidity I saw (half-listening) on television about a year ago was that a 7-year old boy, I believe, took a ~2" toy Leggo soldier to school and got suspended (Zero Tolerance policy) because that molded plastic soldier included a rifle. This is adults gone-amuck, not the children being any kind of a threat.
            • Prior to that, a ~6-year old boy got expelled for showing off his newly-awarded cub scout knife that he was so proud to earn that he took it to school for show-n-tell. His parents spent a lot of money trying to fight the school board to get him reinstated.
            • Also, over a year or so ago, a ROTC student got expelled in his senior year just prior to his high school graduation with acceptance to West Point (?) because he had his training rifle in his car trunk along with his other training gear since his training was after school. His family had to spend a lot of money trying to fight this where he was at-risk for losing his West Point acceptance. I'm not sure of the outcome.

            That's a consideration, too.

Good idea regarding marketing gun safety devices, etc. As far as my opinion about gun control, I haven't provided it.

I'm in America and there is tons of money in illegal arms for those who choose to engage in it.

As 1st and 2nd amendment rights seem to be narrowing, those against them are getting louder than those for these rights. I would think the more controversial the content on these domains, the more money can be made. Trying to find that balance and not being censored is what I am ultimately after if I keep them.

How close to that edge do you think the content about illegal guns with prevention for balance could get without worrying about being censored?

Selling safety devices, advertising, etc. could still be included, too. Finding the right buyer would remain on the table, too.

[It would be nice to hear from those both those for and against gun control to help decide, too. - EDITED: Not in this thread, though...]

Don't think you can do that here, as it's inherently a political issue, and likely to get the thread shut down.

                Thanks for this info!

Steve, regarding the names, it was not to be taken seriously. Thanks for your reply.

    Pennynickels,

Having any sort of gun in a locked trunk is generally LEGAL if the ammunitiion is in the cab. And RIFLES are generally better tolerated than guns.

And WHAT was the training rifle for? In highschool, they generally don't let shootable rifles off the range. The OTHERS, for parades, drills, etc..., are PLUGGED! They are no more weapons than the 2" figures on that young kids hat! OH, and they are 100% LEGAL, even with ammunition, since you can't load them.

OH, and release those names capriciously to ANYONE, and you could be sued, etc...

    Steve
