So, recently after about 10 years going back and forth on the topic of a .xxx domain extension, that would be targeted to Porn sites, much as the same way the .mil extension or .edu extension. The basic premise is it would be a secondary domain extension reserved for adult businesses, and provide an easier way for families and companies to block access to content they have deemed inappropriate. And a lot of changes have been debated and changed over the years. From requiring all Adult companies to register on the new extension, to just creating a new extension for adult related companies. You can read more about it by following the Washington Post article: Coming soon online: Dot-XXX - The Washington Post But Really How Does This Change Effect You? And How Can You Profit From it? Well in the current form, and if it does become a live domain extension, which it likely will getting the seal of approval from ICANN. It would open up the extension for registration. Now most of these secondary domain extensions are run by private companies, who in all cases hold back "specialty domains" to offer in a bidding auction style to the highest bidder. So don't expect to get sex.xxx for the $40 or $100 or whatever fee they will charge. But that doesn't mean there will not be an opportunity to pick up generic adult domains and later flip them. Keep in mind however, that it's a new extension and companies aren't going to pay the prices for .xxx as they would pay for .com or .net. As An Internet User Really having a new extension while it will help with filtering in some aspects, it is unreasonable and not likely to change anytime in the near future that websites will be required to only use the .xxx extension. It just isn't going to happen, and considering it took nearly 10 years and several votes over the last 10 years to be shot down by ICANN for even considering the extension, it just isn't going to happen. |

But you are absolutely right. I personally don't like dealing with adult domains, but I have flipped a few over the years for a tidy sum of money. The biggest reason this can be an opportunity, is on average adult sites spend a lot of money on marketing, in some cases 50%+ of their profit, so if you have a domain that they want, they have no problem shelling out the cash to acquire it. | |

I think it's a great windfall for domain registrars. Every company will want to buy their xxx domain and make it point to their site.
