Need Help? What Are Your Biggest Challenges...

Hey fellow warriors, let me tell you a story...

"Once upon a time nothing made sense to me, absorbing so much information, being exposed to so many concepts. Keyword research, ROI's, PPC, Optimization and so on... I would find myself reading ebook after ebook, course after course and not having time to implement before I was starting my next.

Then finally, I could see the light, nothing was new to me anymore. The jigsaw pieces all naturally fell into place. Since that time I have been successfully achieving and helping others achieve success onlline.
"

I want to give something back to the community that has helped me so much and allowed me to realise my goals during recent times. I have had success both online and offline and the warrior forum and its wonderful troops (Love you guys!) has a big part to play in that.

SO.....

Question: What are the things you are struggling with most?

(SEO, Keyword Research, Business Ideas, Traffic?)

I will do my best to shed some light and hope some other warriors throw in their 2 cents too.

Thanks for offering. Appreciate it and will endeavour to pass on the favour.

Keyword research is killing me. I use all the tools from google and micro niche finder and market samurai and traffic travis but get really annoyed they dont agree. And it takes me 100's of hours!

How do you speed up the process and get a better result.?

      Wingman,

Keyword research tools can vary greatly and that can be frustrating! What I do is use two - google keyword tool and wordtracker (free version.) As long as it shows up on both as "somewhat searched for" I am happy.

Many will say just to choose one tool and stick with it. One or two tools is enough. Even though they vary, it should balance out as you do more with keywords.

I am struggling with the profit per hour issue, it's infused in my head. Is putting x amount of hours in providing y profit and it's quite discouraging b/c the results are uncertain with e-commerce and could take months!

The Google keyword tool is fast useful and free. But it only tells part of the story.
    What about OCI (commercial intent)
What about the level of competition?
    What about available URLs?
What about how hard it is to rank in the top 3 for that keyword?
And how many exact match long tail keyword phrases are there with local searches above several thousand a month?
And can you build a site around the phrase?
And can you actually write an article about the phrase?
And what is the availability of products that can be sold through that phrase?
And what is the return from those sales? Peanuts or monkeys?
And what about related keywords that are in context, supportive and that have high OCI, low competition and products that are profitable to sell associated with them?

I ask myself these questions all the time I'm looking for keywords.

And I spend a lot of time travelling in circles.

Any short circuit suggestions would be welcome...I'm getting dizzy!

Hey wingman, Im sure many of us here are familiar with the feeling. All of the tools you mentioned are great for retrieving the data you need to help you make a decision on which keywords to target. And thats the point, they should only help you make that decision. You have to have courage in your convictions and trust in your own judgement and ability. What I mean is that you should mentally develop your own "Filter" (As per market samurai). So when you look at a keyword/phrase, if it hits your personal filter points, put it on your master list and go gunning for it.

An example of a filter would be

2500 phrase match searches per month
Less than 100,000 competing pages (This will depened on the amount of work your willing to put into ranking for the keyword, seo, link building etc)

There are a few more things I would look at before I chose to pursue a keyword, but you get the idea. There is an element of trial and error too. When you start a campiagn to target specific keywords, 4 months later you will be wiser for it because based on the filter you applied you should then understand more about what it takes to rank for a given keyword. Experience and the lessons we take from it are priceless and not something an ebook could ever teach you.

P.S - I have a couple of free days after today and Im thinking of putting together a series of free videos on how I approach keyword research, if its worth while let me know and I will make it happen.

Good one! Its a question of how much you value your time and what are your goals. Want to give up your day job? Then selling a few clickbank products a month wont do it for you. Your right in analysing the game like this.

      Think about this;

What can you offer that is of great value?
Who would want such a thing?
Where can you find those people online or offline?
What woud you be willing to pay for such a thing?

      The 4 P's of marketing help me establish my business models;

      *Product
      *Pricing
      *Promotion
      *Positioning

Plan these things before you even contemplate building a website or anything else.

So a great product means customers are happy to pay a sufficient price. If you believe in your products and pricing, you should be ready and more importantly confident to go promote (PPC, finding niche forums/communities, seo). Positioning is about engaging your target audience and putting the value inherant in your product right under their noses. Al, things equal, they will buy.

It all starts with "Product" which is key to any business model. The question is what can you provide your target market with that is going to add value in greater proportion to the the money you ask in return. When you get that right, your business model is solid because customers receive value and become repeat customers who are likely to also recommend your brand/services to others.

A word of caution: When your first starting out (And I still consider myself a newbie in any area I have not mastered), you have understand that even if your efforts are not bringing monetary rewards right now, you are still getting paid in experience. Thats just as valuable as cash in my eyes because its that experience that guarantees your continual development towards your goals. I know its easier said than done, but take heart in the things you learn each day. Track your campaigns/activities as much as possible, whether that be an seo, keyword research, ppc, social network or any other campaign. That way when you discover something working for you, you can scale it and make it work some more!

      Hope all that makes sense.

      WOW! Im confused too!

Remember what i said about a "Filter", you have to tighten yours up a little. Your reading into the data too much at the moment. Pick a few indicators and qualify your keywords around these.

I will get these videos made and hopefully they will help.

      Many, many things determine your ranking. The shortlist of things to get right would be as follows;

*Your keywords should appear in your domain/url's
*Your content should contain your keywords but more importantly ADD VALUE!
*Your "On Page" seo should be right (Various on page factors)
*Your "Off Page" seo should be right (Primarily backlinks)
      *Rinse and repeat the following;
      - Producing great content
      - Building backlink to your site and content
      - Finding and engaging your target audience online

There is so much information out there about the internet marketing world and its practice and what experience teaches you is to be selective in what you take in and implement and those things which you discard as "fad" or not worth your time.

I will do my best to help out where I can, will go to work on the keyword research video for you guys too over the next few days.

    Joe,

    Thanks for your input.

I have been working at this full time for nearly a year and have about 20 sites built.

I consider I have learnt a lot but none of those sites get much traffic. One is No.1 in google but I discovered the exact traffic for that keyword is about the same number of visitors I get each month. However I thought the traffic which was braod match was 10 times as much.

I really need to start getting some results now. So am increasing my work rate to try and improve my performance. The thing I find really annoying is the idiots who keep saying "do this and get stunning resuilts" ! not you! The others are trying to sell you something.

I dont mind paying people for results. I had a manufacturing business with lots of staff and paid people to do the work. But we got chargable output. In this business its all fluffy clouds! No substance.

Would be happy for any help but I would ask that its real usable stuff to get a short term result.

I think the best way is to outsource the different functions to experts and demand functional results.

Sorry I'm a bit grumpy today. Spent about 4 hours just trying to get some code to work. 2 hours on a helpline and no resolution.

Would appreciate some realistic advice. I'm sick of the clouds!

    Cheers

I feel ya dude. The web is plagued with these fly by night broken promises. While I get it that we have to put the work into making something succeed, one thing I learned pretty quick, thankfully, is that quite a few of these guys out there are only delivering on 1/2 of the grand promises. The 1/2 where the money goes into their accounts.

I have learned a lot on IM over the past few years myself and what has worked for me is focusing on my own products and services. And then applying IM methods to these areas.

Would be nice to find people ahead in the trail who actually made it the way they are telling those behind to do it. But there's a lot of room for skepticism in there.

Hopefully you (and us all) will be able to find it easier to rise above.

Thank you Joe for opening it up. You sound like a genuine person.

Right now due to lack of funds I am doing manual forum backlinking! It's so tedious and boring! Bleh!
I know the best answer would be to outsource it, but I can't even afford to spend a dime right now.
Do you have any other suggestions for building backlinks?
    If not, it's okay.

Suggest you go to mechanical turk www.mturk.com

I hear tell they will do things for as little as 50cents to a dollar. Have put a job up and waiting for results. If you did 50 backlinks and charged 3 times cost would it be better?

Let me know if it works.

      Cheers

I really wonder why this thread died... it has so much potential

Social Joe, what are your experiences with:

    1) creating a brand business, something other than the tried-and-true niche sites?

    2) Your first employees, or outsourcers. What lessons or tips would you give on your first experiences (or lessons from bad experiences?)
