Product review, different approach

Hi guys, what do you think of this approach for creating a good, believable product review.

Find a few suitable CB products with decent gravity.

1) Ask a friend you know who's an expert or interested in the category if they'd like a free product in return for a good, 1000 word review, maybe even vid, of the product... or maybe someone they know.

2) If you can't find a friend interested in the product, make the same offer on a forum, preferably one where you have a little history.

3) Make sure to give them a few choices. Let them know that you'll be marketing it, and could they keep this in mind when reviewing it.... If it's a product that's selling well, chances are the review will be decent.

Good for them, they're getting a product for say $100, that you've only paid $25 for (example)

Good for you... you get a product review from an actual customer, who's an expert on the subject.

What do you think? I don't know about you, but with some niches, I'd find it difficult to give a believable review... if it's a product that requires me having prior knowledge.

Interesting idea, but if your friend can't write or speak well I'm not sure it works.

I think you'd be better off paying $25 for a quality review article myself, but your approach might be more authentic unless you find a great writer.

There's always that chance. I know you can pay someone to do a review... you can get em done on fiverr... I imagine they'd be pretty generic and not great. A better quality, more expensive review, may sound too profesional.. nothing wrong with that, but I'm looking for a real person review.

Good point though, I have friends I know would be able to write a decent review, and some that wouldn't.

You could send them some reference links, to similar reviews.

I think the palusability is more important than a professionally written review.

Take amazon for instance, this is the first place I go to when I'm looking to buy something, and I want no bs reviews.

Most of them are no words worths, but its the fact that you know it's a real person that wrote it, that gives it it's weight.

I think a medium between the two could work well.

Many people nowadays can write reviews without even owning the product. By doing your research, maybe watch a few videos on the product, and read around you can do that as well.

Feel good about throwing out old clothes because you know there’ll be a new one waiting for you at the door.

Maybe, I can usually tell the difference between someone who's actually bought the product though.... then again, maybe I can't

I just think there's so many fake reviews, I've done them myself... I'd like to offer an actual review.

I could of course, buy the product myself, and review it that way... I just think you'd get a more realistic review if it's someone who already knows a lot about the area it's in.

Maybe this could be your pitch, let people know that many reviews are from people who've never used the product, and somehow offer proof that this one has?

Am I over thinking this... do people actually care if it's real or not? Does Joe public even know?

  • I don't think I have any friends who would bother to write it... They'd just say that it's too troublesome.

I hear ye, I have a few that I know that could do it... whether they'd be doing it as a favour, or if they'd be genuinely happy to do it for a free product... hmmm

What if you found someone on a forum asking about certain online training courses.... surely you'd find someone interested in saving $100 in exchange for 2 hours of their time.... I guess you run the risk of getting a rubbish review though.
