Aweber - How To Direct Subscribers To My Customized Confirmation Page?

Edit: My apologies - I have been referring to two different things here. The Aweber page subscribers are sent to after they have entered their name and E-Mail can't be changed(you can have a version on your own site though) but the confirmation E-Mail can.

OK, I have been getting subscribers to this list but only around half have been confirming. I just discovered why. After they enter their name and E-Mail, they are being taken to the standard Aweber confirmation page, that says this:-

You're Almost Done - Activate Your Subscription!

You've just been sent an email that contains a confirm link.
In order to activate your subscription, check your email and click on the link in that email. You will not receive your subscription until you click that link to activate it.
If you don't see that email in your inbox shortly, fill out the form again to have another copy of it sent to you.

Instead, they should be going to the same page, but with my custom message on there, which is(I hope) a more user-friendly and less intimidating version Somewhere along the line, they have stopped going to my customized version and are now going to the standard one. I've looked and looked, and I can't figure out how to change this back  I can see where I change the content of the confirmation message(My lists>List settings>Confirmed Opt-in) but don't see an option to actually use that one instead of the standard one.

Live Chat is offline, and I don't really want to wait hours for a support ticket reply so I was hoping someone here would be able to help

Ok, so the reason that you're getting that, is because it's a success page for when someone signs up, to tell them to activate. If you go into web forms and you click on next, you will see a "Thank You Page", hit custom URL and put yours in.

Simply look for this line in your html form code:

    <input type="hidden" name="redirect" value="website.com" />
Put the url of the webpage you want people to be taken to in place of the word 'website.com'

Thanks Caleb and Will, but I perhaps didn't explain properly. After they have confirmed, they are going to a thank you page on my site, but I'm talking about the actual confirmation E-Mail itself. I'm happy for them to go to the Aweber page, but I want them to see my edited version of the content. I have customised it by going to My lists>List settings>Confirmed Opt-in yet Aweber is still sending them their standard(referred to by them as 'basic') confirmation/thank you E-Mail.

When I go to 'web forms', the option selected is 'basic version customized with your own logo'. The other options are for a video version, audio version, custom url(which would be on my own site if I wanted to do that) and nothing at all.

You're confusing me. You are talking about the content of the confirmation email or the thankyou page? You are talking about two different things. In the first paragraph you are talking about the settings for the confirmation email.

In the second paragraph you are talking about the settings for the thankyou page.

Sorry I'm talking about the confirmation E-Mail. I know it can be confusing because there is a thank you page for them submitting their name/E-Mail and then a thank you page for them confirming they would like to subscribe. I'm talking about the former

The code I gave you above is the code in your web form html that specifies the page people are taken to after they enter their name and email address. As I said, just change that to the url you want. You don't even need to play around in Aweber.

The text you are customizing under the 'Confirmed Optin' tab is the cotent that will be in the confirmation email, NOT the content on the thankyou page. The only way to customize the thank you page is to create your own custom one and host it on your site.

Yeah, it's probably best that they are taken to a page on my site, rather than the standard Aweber one. For now though, I am OK with them going to the Aweber one so long as it is showing my customized version of it. The problem is that I am customizing it, but they are still being shown the bog standard Aweber one.

As I said in my OP, the thank you page(after they have opted in and confirmed) is hosted on my site - that isn't the problem.

You are confused. I am talking about the same page as you. The page they see straight after they enter their email address, before they ever go to their email inbox. This page can NOT be customized in Aweber. The content you are customizing is the confirmation email not the thank you page - you are mistaken.

If you want this first thank you page to have custom content on it then you will need to create your own thank you page and host it on your own website.

            See the attached screenshot!

Sorry, but I'm NOT confused here. I may not have explained this properly (especially in my OP), but I know exactly what I'm talking about. The confirmation page CAN be customized by going to My lists>List settings>Confirmed Opt-in. Unless they have changed this at some point over the last year? My customized version of it is right there in my account. Unless they have made it so you HAVE to use theirs, or a version on your own site. If that was the case though, I wouldn't be able to still edit the confirmed opt-in message.

Edit: Just saw your screenshot, and yes - I know that's what they see. The problem is, they are seeing Aweber's standard one, NOT my edited one(which is still at Aweber, but with my own wording.

There must be a thank you url sent to them from aweber and after they have confirmed it, they will be taken to your customize page which you have already done on your Aweber cp. Please try to explain where the problem is coming from...

Your thread it titled "How To Direct Subscribers To My Customized Confirmation Page?". Now in the post above you are saying you want to customize your confirmation email.

One minute you are talking about pages the next you are talking about emails. I know Aweber inside out but can't help you when you keep changing your mind as to what the problem is.

OK, it does seem as though I've confused two different things here. What I have been referring to that is customizable is the E-Mail message they receive, which contains the confirmation link in it. What I wanted to change was the contents of the page they are sent to when they have entered their name and E-Mail. You can't edit that page, only the E-Mail message. You can have your own version on your own site though.

Yeah, the best results I seem to get are from a simple thank you page like this:

To Help Protect Your Privacy, You Must Confirm
Your Email Before I Can Send You The Free [Freebie Name]

(Watch the short video below for instructions)
Below that I will have a short video that shows them what the email looks like in their inbox and which link to click on. I also show them what to do if the link is not clickable - ie: show them how to copy and paste it into the address bar.

Under that short video I will also have text instructions in the form of 3 bullet points that once again tell them the exact individual steps they need to take in order to confirm their email.

If you don't have the resources available to you then you could do a version of this same page without the video however try and use a video if you can.
Note: Without clicking on the link inside this email you
will NOT gain access to my free [Freebie Name]
So here's all you need to do to access the free stuff right now:
              • Go to your email inbox now & look for an email from me
[Your Name] with the subject line [Confirm your request for information.]
              • Open up this email and click on the blue confirmation link found halfway down the email. Clicking on this blue link confirms your email address.
              • You will then be taken right away to the secure area of my website where you can download your FREE [Freebie Name].
If you have not received the email within a few minutes, don't stress. It will most likely be due to heavy traffic at the time. Thank you so much for playing your part in eliminating unwanted spam.

                Hello!

I have read this thread entirely and paid particular attention to your comments. I think your suggestions are great and I am thinking of implementing them.

                3. User is taken to a page that tells them they need to check their email and confirm their email address before they can receive the freebie. You can either use one of awebers pages for this or create your own custom page and upload it on your website.
However, on another thread someone was saying the following:
"... monetize the confirmation page for two reasons. First, a small percentage of people will buy if you make them an offer. Secondly, with squeeze pages plastered across the web many people will forget to confirm their subscription. (Note: This procedure can be done through an auto-responder.)

The confirmation page should tell the subscriber to confirm their opt-in and provide them with an offer... much like a mini-sales page."

Do many warriors monetize the confirmation page?

                Thanks for your replies

Hello Richard. Unfortunately, our thank you page cannot be edited. However, you can redirect them to a web page of your choice after the submit button is pressed. What you want to do is when you move your cursor to the "Web Forms" tab and click the link of the name of your web form. When the generator opens, look near the top of your screen and press the option that says "Settings" The second field will be labeled "Thank you page.'...

One of the options in the drop down menu will say "Custom Page" Here, you can enter the URL of a web site you want subscribers to be taken to after they press the submit button

            On a related note...

If I ever get the choice of using a custom page on my
own site versus a page on a third-party provider site,
I usually always use my own page on my own site.

            Why?

            1. Control

I have full control of how the page appears and can
adjust it if things go wrong. If the site is down, I can
do something about it - proactively.

If the page is hosted with a third-party provider, you're
relying on them having the page appear and can't control
            things if it doesn't.

            2. Customization

If you use default pages, you usually get default results
            - which are far from optimal.

To get better results, I customize my pages to follow the
conversation that's likely going on in MY visitor's mind.

            3. Testing & Tracking

I'm a testing and tracking headcase and want to know
how people flow through my site. I also split-test at
each point of the sales (and pre-sales) process to
            maximize conversion rates.

If you send them to an external site, you can't test
and track all of the steps in your process.

            Dedicated to mutual success,

Going single opt-in will lead to a bigger list in numerical
terms but many of those additional 'subscribers' will be
                  mis-typed e-mail addresses (e.g. jeobloggs @ example.com)
                  fake e-mail addresses (e.g. asdf @ asdf.com), intentionally
                  deceptive e-mail addresses (e.g. billgates @ microsoft.com)
                  and malicious entries:

Confirmed Opt-In Protects Against Spamza and Other Malicious Sites (no affil.)

Autoresponder companies such as AWeber use different
servers to send out their single opt-in e-mails and those
servers have LOWER deliverability than the double opt-in
                  servers.

Why? Because the single opt-in servers have higher
bounce rates and more spam complaints which leads
to poorer server reputation and lower deliverability.

You need to split-test to be able to determine if single
opt-in is better for you, your list and your autresponder
provider - for the short-term at least...

Single opt-in may be better for some people today but
I don't think that single opt-in is 'the future' at all.

To future-proof my lists I tend to use double opt-in
because then I have a full audit path for each and
every subscriber and I know that people on the list
confirmed they wanted to be on it.

Most companies who are responsible for getting e-mail
actually delivered into people's inboxes recommend
double opt-in and there are many reasons for that.

Actually to add onto Sean's point, single opt in was the past, double opt in came in the prevent spam and now a lot of people are using single again.

                  Just saying.

(you said yourself, only half of your subscribers are confirming)

      Ok, my heads going wobbly.

When they sign up and hit the "sign up here" or whatever button, they go to an Aweber page saying you need to go to your inbox and click the link. I think you can change this to any other page, like a sales page or your hosted version of the email reminder, I think Wills right about not being able to change the Aweber page though.

The screen shot of the "Thank you" email can be edited. I think Liam, this is what you want to edit? If it won't let you edit it I have a feeling this is going to be something you take up with Aweber. I just adjusted one of mine and signed up and it changed no problem.

Apologies if I've confused it further.

EDIT. I think I have just confused it further. If it's the Aweber page I'm not going to be much help Liam, sorry.

    Liam,

The 'thank you' page is set in the My lists>List settings>Confirmed Opt-in just below the confirmation email settings.

3 Success Page What page of your website do you want to send people when they confirm?

    Confirmation Success Page URL
    http://yoursite.com/thanks.html
When they click the 'confirmation' link, that's the page they will go to.

Is that what you are looking for?

    Thanks,

    John

    1. User lands on optin page.

    2. User enters their name and email on optin page.

    3. User is taken to a page that tells them they need to check their email and confirm their email address before they can receive the freebie. You can either use one of awebers pages for this or create your own custom page and upload it on your website.

    4. User goes to their email, opens the email and clicks on the confirmation link. User is then take to a page where they can access the free content you promised. You can specify which page this is by going to 'List Settings' > 'Confirmed Optin' > '3. Success Page'.
